I am in Southern Ohio and I have not totally decided what type of nursing I want to be in. Part of my says Psychiatric, Part of me says Oncology, and part of my says NICU.

Currently I go to school in Dayton. I'm originally from the Cleveland area. I still have one more year of school left, and then I'll be moving back home. This summer I'm going to be working at the Cleveland Clinic in the nurse extern program that I can't wait to start!

Specializes in NICU/Neonatal transport.

Columbus and I'll be an NNP when I'm done :)

Chiming in from Cincinnati. I'm currently an LPN student trying desperately to find the best school (that doesn't require me to jump through 50-11 hoops) for my LPN to RN education. I want to do L&D, mother/baby, NICU....anything and everything in that vein...I wanna learn it all! Gotta finish my education first, though!

Spooky, what school do you go to? Im also from Cincinnati...im attending MSJ, im just starting so ive recently done a lot of research on schools down here, if you need any advice just let me know!

ELKMN,

I'm almost half done with the LPN program at Scarlet Oaks. I'm gettin' really antsy about finding a school to go to after I graduate. Its 10 months away, but I'm trying to get my ducks in a row so I can get in as soon as possible. I haven't found a program yet that doesn't require at least 1000 hours of LPN experience before continuing on in the RN program :uhoh3: It looks like it will be at least a year before I can continue on. Oh well, I'll bet my daughter might enjoy the extra attention during my year off from school. How are things at MSJ?

Congrats on your upcoming grad!! i havent started MSJ yet, i start on May 16th....im also taking the last of my prereqs at C-state...the two schools are going to overlalp so that will be kind of a pain....have you thought of going into an ADN program instead? Christ has a one, Good Sam has one, C-state has one but the waitlist for clinicals there is killer (18 mos)....is your LPN school for hs students? I thought the oaks were an alternate hs? maybe im thinking of something else, my roommate is thinking about doing LPN, how can i get in touch with them? Thanks!

ELKMN,

Thanks! Sometimes grad date seems like its so far away. I graduate in early March. I am currently looking into ADN programs. Many schools will give LPNs credit for the first year of an ADN program and then you take the final year of the RN program and get your ADN..that's what I want to do. All the schools I've looked into so far require you to work as an LPN at least 1000 hours before they'll give you credit for that first year. Sometimes I think about just trying to enter an ADN program and doing both years, but I'd like to get credit for the education I'm working so hard for, plus I'm already in debt up to my eyeballs. I went to Miami for 3 years before entering this program. I needed an evening nursing program and no one around seemed to have an evening ADN program, so I chose to do the LPN route through Scarlet Oaks. I really like the program. It is an alternative high school, and it also has adult education programs. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to go the LPN route. You can contact them at (513)612-5823.

I hear ya, im in debt past my eyeballs if thats possible, before going into nursing i spent 5 years at Ohio State...grad with BA in psych and soc, i was pursuing an ADN but the waitlist at cstate was wayyyy to long..lucky for me MSJ accepted me into their accelerated masters program...so atleast i dont feel so bad aboutmy BA now...thanks for the #!!

I am from northeast ohio, work in a community ICU getting ready to start a new job in cardiothoracic ICU in Cleveland and starting the RN to MSN program at Case this fall. :)

I'm from Cleveland, but moved to Akron a few years ago. I'm just starting out in nursing school (degree switch) but am pretty sure I want to go into Psych. We'll see... :)

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

Born and raised in Cleveland. Went to nursing school in California though. Got homesick and went back and worked in Cleveland for a while and picked up my BSN at Cleveland State University. Finally got yearning for the warmer weather again and came back to California. I'd really rather be in Las Vegas.

I've been a med/surg nurse most of my career and worked on just about every kind of unit. Did ICU stepdown for 5 years. Worked as an IV therapist for 6 years and loved it. Was nice going from patient to patient and not having to worry about them for a whole shift. I've been a nursing supervisor, head nurse and a telephonic nurse. To make money on the side I worked in nursing homes throughout my career. Of them all I'd have to say I liked supervision and IV therapy the best.
