OHHH The Arrogance of Some Doctors!!

Nurses Relations

Published

I'm curious to see if any of you have witnessed such an utter disregard for a patient's care and feelings. My good friend is pregnant with her second child. She goes for her first sono and needed a pap as well. She's in the stirrups, prepped for her pap when the doctor's cell phone rings, AND HE ANSWERS IT!!! She's laying on the table with her feminine business exposed and he stops to take a phone call. And, as if that wasn't bad enough, during her lady partsl sono, he has the probe inserted, he's examining the uterus, and guess what? THE PHONE RINGS AGAIN!!! And yes, HE ANSWERS IT!!! As a woman, I am absolutely apaulled, as a student of the profession and the daughter of a physician, I am angered. What absolute arrogance!! Have any of you ever seen anything like this? Maybe I'm just crazy, but I'm thinkin that this type of thing crosses the line. What do you think?

his cell must be slathered with ky

Ok...

Besides the rudness of it all...

It is really washing his hands? Changing his gloves ? Or getting we all know what all over his phone? :barf01:

What I want to know is-did he stop, take of his gloves, wash his hands then procede with the phone; did he repeat above process to continue with exam? Otherwise EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW :nono: :nono: :nono:

I got a better one for you, While I was a student observing open heart surgery on a 4 y/o Down's baby, the doctor's cell phone went off in his pocket, he asked the circulating nurse to go into his pocket get the phone and hold it to his ear while he proceeded to talk to his realtor about a house he was buying in another state.

If it were me, I would have said something. "Could that not wait until you have finished with my exam?" or "Do you mind?" or "It is a bit unnerving that you are having a conversation that is not related to my medial needs while you are looking at my private parts"

She should have spoken up. I know he does that every day (or nearly) and it is as routine to him as eating lunch, but it is not the same for the patient.

Is it just me, or have cell phones made people even more rude than they were 10 years ago?

I agree with everyone else...she should ditch the guy. I never tolerate such disrespect from healthcare practitioners. I had this on gyno who made me wait roughly two hours every time I went to her office, and she would not even apologize for being late. Guess what-- I found another provider. (Actually, I've started seeing NPs since, and am much happier.)

It's not just you! I hate waiting behind someone who is in line but not paying attention and is holding up everyone. In movie theaters, classes and other places they don't care if they bother everybody else and have even said it their right to use them wherever they want. I have to get a cell phone now because I will be on call but I won't talk on it while driving, eating in a restaurant or at an appointment.

Did you say IN CLASS??? That's the best way to make a college professor really mad, and they can FLUNK THEM. And it's not their "right" to use them wherever they want...everyone else has a right not to listen to their conversations. People and their lack of common courtesy, I swear.

It's not just you.

We had an older couple admitted who escaped a house fire that their 30ish daughter perished in. The husband had on underwear and the wife was stark naked. Nurses assured them they would not be thrown out on the street. Doc comes in and discharges them. At 12 he is contacted that the wifes eyes have swollen shut and he yells "WHY ARE THEY STILL THERE, SEND THEM TO ER." They didn't have a place to go, clothes, and their daughter was dead.

Same Doc had a friend who sunburned herself while slaving away at the pool and she got a morophine drip. pampered the princess.

Tweety you're right. You're not supposed to be using your cell phones when you're on duty.... Emergency calls can always be recieved through the hospital system....
