Oh boy, what was she thinking?!

Just needed to share this HILARIOUS phone call we received at my new job. I work in a home care agency, and we also have a CNA/MA school associated with the company. Our marketing girls have been doing great work advertising and our phones have been ringing off the hook all week with potential candidates.

I got one call on Friday that totally made my week. Here is approximately how it went:

"(insert company name here), Julie speaking."

"Hi ummm, I was wondering ummmm what was the policy ummm in your CNA school umm on ummm....drug testing."

"(total silence on my part while I try to avoid laughing out loud and peeing my pants). Yeah, just a second, Im going to transfer you to our school, they can better answer your question. (This is where I put her on hold and proceed to warn our school receptionist to go pee before taking this call, and transfer it)

The receptionist later called me back, laughing, to say that when she told this obviously high `lady`that our policy was random drug testing, whenever we want to, she hung up on her.

When I questioned how in the WORLD someone like that would think to try to get work in healthcare, I was told that in the state of Georgia, CNAs need no more than an 8th grade education, and can be as young as 16yrs old. WHAT?! If someone cant manage to do something as simple as getting a high school diploma, or at the very least the GED, how can we place patient care in their hands?!

Ok, just needed to share and vent a little, thanks guys! :)

Why are getting offended? This isn't about you. This had nothing to do with you. If this isn't "flaming" then I don't know what.

Trust me, that was not flaming. Go hang out at 4chan.

I think your post had a very big... "you had to be there" component.

I really didn't get the hilarity of it, and I've got a pretty good sense of

humor.

Having said that, I don't think you meant any harm either. I think

if I would have been there and heard the kid over the phone and

how they probably sounded, I would have chuckled too.

one of the more intelligent persons in my hs class couldn't spell worth spit.....a minor LD.

I appreciate proper spelling and grammar. I also make mistakes! I wrote a reply the other day and improperly typed "their" when it should've been "there." It was too late to go back and edit by the time I realized it. I was like :banghead:

I also have to remind myself not to judge people based on spelling. It's actually a fact that spelling ability has nothing to do with one's level of intelligence. Grammar? Well, I'm still working on that.

I wish I could "Like this" a billion times.......as an old ED nurse I got the humor right away. I agree with the OP that there needs to be a certain way to ensure competency and in some aspects, literacy, when dealing with the ill and infirm so that you KNOW they can read and follow instructions.

OP I had a smart crack about age requirements in Georgia and decided I better not write it.;)

I still don't see the post as an insult to diploma or GED.......just that for this kind of job there should be quality control measures to ensure safety. I agree it has nothing not do with age......I entered college a few weeks before I was old enough to drive. I was an RN at age 18. It has to do with being able to qualify and be able to be responsible to complete the task.

I still can't get past starting a job inquiry with .......

"Do you drug screen?????" :banghead:

What the heck????? The answer is If that is your FIRST question.....you need get in rehab, improve your life or move on.
