Official 2012 Fall RN admission frustration page

Hi everyone,
So I figured I should start this page as many of us who are applying to nursing program for Fall 2012 are going to get really anxious soon. I personally am applying to Second entry nursing programs all around GTA and anxiously waiting to hear back from them.
Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences as you wait for that mighty acceptance letter.

I'll join you with fingers crossed and nails bitten. My application is in for a few programs, all direct entry (first degree) to colleges in the GTA. My true hope is to get into Humber, what's your top choice?

If you have a high average (85+) in your prerequisites, I wouldn't be too concerned. You'll get in somewhere.

In 2009 when I was applying for the BScN program I didnt get an acceptance until late March early April

My average all depends on whether or not they tally math and what bio they choose to use in it, unfortunately. It's either 82% or 85.5%, so I've applied to some RPN programs as well. That way if I don't get into a BScN I can bridge later.

I don't expect to hear back very quickly, since I'm technically a mature student, but I applied to places all over southern Ontario.

When I was applying in 2006 at this time, my last acceptance came in May. It's still very early, so try to relax. All you can do is be patient :)

My top choice is York University as I will be finishing my four year degree here in June. I am accustomed to the system and already have an on campus job. So I am really hoping York accepts me!

For first entry nursing, I asked Humber and their last year cut off was about 80 with at least a 70% on each of University grade 12 English, Biology, Math (Grd 11 or 12), Chemistry or Physics. Therefore, as long as you have that you're good to go!

I have my fingers crossed for all of you and myself!

& Joanna, haha I think I live at York university's Nursing Department to bug them with my admission questions. But I will take your wise words and try to relax

Am I the only one who's a little bit (or more) shocked that the admission average to even the universities generally falls at or even under 80%? For such a 'competitive' set of programs, they must have a tonne of people applying who's marks aren't that great. I think a lot of people feel that they didn't get accepted because the program 'filled too quickly', when really it's just because their marks didn't cut it. Happened to a friend of mine back in grade 12; couldn't understand why she didn't get into Queen's for nursing with a 74% average. Boggled my mind.

Yeah I don't think any university accepts applicants with a 74% average for any program. Also a lot of times when I call universities to ask about their cut off, I don't entirely believe them because they would want most amount of people spending money to apply for their program. But that could just be me being cynical.

I don't think you are cynical. A few years ago, Grant MacEwan accepted 1200 applications for 120 seats. At $100 per application.

TobeNursey, you'd be surprised. Go on electronicinfo.ca's database and look up nursing admission averages for last year. They log all the one's for universities, and some of them (Brock? methinks) accepted a 74% average overall. Even Queen's was looking at 86-89% only, the rest stopped at 81. So my chances of getting into university would have been just as good as colleges if they'd leave me the heck alone about my university grades

Which is another thing that makes me crazy. No, I didn't have a bloody 80% average in university. Why are my post-sec grades taken at face value with highschool? Everyone in their right mind knows one is significantly easier than the other, yet the system is pretty much stacked against anyone who already has any post-secondary schooling (unless it's pre-nursing... and you got a 2.8+).

My college of choice requires a 3.5 minimum from the same school's pre nursing program (in reference the the last sentence of the above post).

I think the odds are stacked against you the second you do not enroll in nursing straight from highschool, or at least it appears...
