ODU Accelerated BSN Hopefuls Fall 2016

Published

Hi! I did not see a thread currently open for prospective students for ODU's Accelerated BSN program for Fall 2016. Does anyone plan on applying? I am thinking about applying, as the deadline is quickly approaching! Also, does anyone know how long it takes to hear back on an admissions decision?

Because I checked the "I don't care what program" option I was accepted into the concurrent program!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I got my letter and was also accepted. I'm doing a happy dance over here. :cat:

I'm in too!!! I cried happy tears! I almost feel like I'm in a daze. My son was recently accepted into the Science and Medicine Academy that the high school offers and I cried as I was walking to the house from the mailbox reading the letter. I did the same thing today and he smiled and asked what it was cause he said he knew it must be REALLY good. He hugged me before I could even tell him. Congrats to everyone else that made it!

Congrats!!! I won't be able to check my mail until late tonight :(

Hello! Thank you and congratulations to you too!:)

I live in Virginia Beach.

I just received my letter today and I was accepted into the concurrent program! I'm very excited but a tad wary. I just want to be sure that getting my BSN this way will mean that I am just as accredited as if I had graduated purely through ODU. Do you guys have any input on that? I'm going to meet with Ms. Hawkins as well to find out all the ins and outs of the program.

From what I understand, the degree the concurrent students get is the same as the the traditional. Basically, a lot of the community colleges offer Associates in Nursing if you are accept into their program. The joint Riverside program is more like a second location for the ODU program. Same courses, same manner of testing and instruction. It's basically the same program. The community colleges don't offer courses above a certain level, so you can't get a BSN from them. ODU offers the upper level courses and integrates them into the schedule each semester. The have joined with Riverside to offer ODU's program at Riverside. Your degree will be a Bachelors, your Bachelors will be from ODU. Essentially it's the same program, it's just the best way for them to offer it to more people and to offer it in locations convenient to the southside and penninsula students.

That is how it was explained to me (by my advisors at TCC). I can't attest to their accuracy in describing the program or my complete understanding. Definitely double check with Ms. Hawkins. ODU has their name associated with the program and the degree is a BSN from ODU.

Thank you so much for responding beachbon! The more I look into the program and talk to people the more at ease I feel about it. I am curious to see how they handle financial aid and what I have to do through ODU versus what I have to do through Riverside.

I'm not 100% positive but I think I read that you can only use financial aid for one school not for both. Congratulations and good luck in the program!!
