Hello everyone! I noticed that there are several posts out there in regards to commisioned officer training (COT) that are helpful. There is an august 2011 cot thread, and I just thought that I would start the October 2011 COT thread.Along with others preparing for this, I too am nervous and would like to be as prepared as possible.
I am a new grad. That just got selected in the April boards, and have been working as a care home nurse manager in the mean time as I await the big day. I will be doing my nurse transition program (NTP) in Cincinatti, ohio and will be stationed in Lackland, located in san Antonio, TX. This was my first choice as Med. Surg. I heard that I will be working with the army in their hospital in Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC).
I am still waiting for my commission. My recruiter said it would not be until Sept.
I have a wife and two young children, and I am trying to get as much info. As possible so that we can prepare ahead of time. They want to come up for my graduation. Since we are from Hawaii, accomodations are costly and if we plan ahead we may find cheaper airfare, etc. Anyone know details on COT graduation dates and when we leave for NTP?
I know this is a lot, but I hope someone can help. Mahalo!

I have been told I will be attending COT 12-01 also.

Awesome! I was beginning to think this class didn't have many nurse selections for COT. It is nice to network and get info like the guys leaving in august. Are you a new grad going to ntp? Where are you going, and where will you be stationed? Did your recruiter tell you when you will be commissioning?

I will be attending COT in October as well.... I initially heard 22 nurses were selected for this COT and a few weeks ago I heard it was only 17, so there aren't many of us! I am doing NTP in Cincinnati and I will be stationed at Lackland AFB. I commissioned two weeks ago :) Good luck!
I have been an RN BSN for about 5 years and will graduate in August with my MSN (FNP). I did my MSN through the HPSP so I have been commissioned in the Reserves for 18 months, I will recommission as an active duty 1st LT after graduation (My constructive credit will make me a 1st LT with 21 months TIG). I don't know for sure where I will be assigned yet, I'm still waiting to hear back from the assignment coordinator.
Wow! My friend has a similar situation and is finishing up his FNP over the summer and is still waiting to see when he will be leaving for cot. He is doing the hpsp too but was not in the reserves prior. He has no work experience and will be a1st lieutenant after COT. He will not be attending NTP.
Congrats! I didn't realize that there were only so few. I wonder why? I feel so blessed to have this great opportunity. My whole family is excited as I am. This has been a very long process and I just feel so misinformed. I am constantly reading these boards to get as much info.as possible.
I cannot believe you were already commissioned so soon. My recruiter said that we are not allowed to commission until a month before leaving. I need to ask him about this. What state are you in and do you know anyone else in our COT class that has also been commissioned? Maybe you can ask your recruiter what I need to do to have my recruiter to commission me earlier. I have all of my paper work done and signed just waiting on my commission. Thanks for your help!
Just to clarify I am Inactive Reserve which is what all HPSP students are I don't actually have any Reserve service time.
I see, that makes sense.
Hey Superman,
I am from Oregon...I am not sure about commissioning, it may be because my recruiter is leaving for training most of the summer, most of the info I have received is from this site. I will hopefully be getting a few things such as uniforms before COT but that is not entirely sure yet. I hope you get the info you need soon. I hadn't heard about any rules to commissioning dates, mine was fairly simple...we just picked a date to meet and I took the oath. It was pretty low key.

Thanks, I emailed my recruiter to see if I could commission now. I hope I am able to. Did you get your military ID yet? I heard that some people were able to get that before leaving for COT.
