I am an excelsior student, I need A&P and Microbiology. Ocean County College has online A&P and Microbiology. For A&P it has high school chemistry as a prerequisite and for Microbiology it has biology college level for prerequisite, (I dont have those prerequisites) was anyone able to take these courses without the prerequisites?? If so, what would I need to do?

Apr 4, 2010 i would call the dept. of science on monday and talk to someone like the dept chair or at least the instructor for the class. i've been able to waive a couple of pre-reqs over the years just because i'm an adult student/have lots of hours/presented myself professionally. i know they want those other classes so you have a basis for learning, but as an adult/non-trad student, sometimes they let you in on your own. it might be harder, but the worst they can do is say no. you don't know if you don't try!

He is the one you need to email and ask if you can take the A & P course w/out the prereq's. He will prob tell you yes, as he did me and several others. I think the cost for Ocean's class is something like 5 or 600 then you have to buy the microscope and books, etc which will cost something like $300 in addition to tuition. Also, Amarillo College of TX has A & P 1 and 2 w/out any prereq's required. Amarillo costs $477 for the class and the book bundle is $248. It's less expensive in other places though and you can use an older version of the book.

They're usually pretty good about it, but it's best to speak with an advisor, let them know your plan, and get their approval (in writing, if possible).

And the online class is a lecture and lab class. My college accepted it as a transfer. Make sure you ask your transcript evaluator at your school if they will accept it as a transfer. They most likely will. BTW, their site is www.actx.eduThey do NOT have Microbiology, though....

somuchsole 12 Posts Apr 5, 2010 I am currently taking A/P I at Ocean. I actually only wanted to take Micro but they wouldn't allow me since the pre-req's are both A&P. But they didn't require any pre-req info when I registered for A/P. Hope that helps.

Speak with an advisor when you ask for the form and see if you meet the criteria to have your petition approved.
