OCCC BADNAP Summer 2021

Published

Hi all, im creating a thread for those applying to OCCC BADNAP Summer 2021. I created one for last year program and I never applied, went through some hardships but I am ready. ? Please feel free to share, comment and give advice on this thread. Good luck to you all!

Congrats, Tahana!  Go get 'em!  ?

Hello!

I applied to the BADNAP program in 2017 (before I owned my home or was married) and was waitlisted at a pretty high number, so I figured I had no shot. I decided to buckle down and take an IT job so that I could buy my own house and move forward in life since I didn’t get in. After leaving my OCCC email unchecked past that point, I looked at it about a year later and found out that I did actually get in…I guess a lot of people declined or didn’t respond. Now I’m kicking myself because I want to go to nursing school so badly, but I have anchored myself into a full time job with a salary I now depend on heavily with a house and a family. Are any of you planning on working full time through the program? Do you think this would be possible? Would the traditional pathway be more doable?

Traditional would be more doable. There are some people who are able to work full time in the program but not very many. If you have a health background you might be OK. Most people that I know in the program now are not working or working part time.

Specializes in CVICU, MICU, CCRN.

I want to echo what the previous poster stated. It is a huge time commitment. I worked full time my first semester. Part time my second semester. Had to move to PRN for my final two semesters. I could have likely stayed full time but as a husband and father I would have had zero time for anything outside of work and school. It would have placed a heavier load on my wife. If I had gone traditional there is no doubt I could have finished working full time without issue. The only thing you need to worry about is how your work schedule is. You will have to be on campus for various labs, skills labs, ATI exams and skills check offs. There are also lectures and then you have clinicals on top of all that. So if you have a job where there really isn't any wiggle room in your working hours then it would definitely be more difficult. I wish you luck in making your decision! It is one that I am happy I made.
