Hi everyone! Okay, so this semester's grades are in and my gpa is : 3.8242
I PRAY that this is good enough to get me in for this year. I really don't know. Last year's was what, a 3.77 something? I don't know if this will be enough or not. I pray that it is, I DESPERATELY want to get in!!!!
Ahh. The waiting....I know i' supposed to be relaxed because exams are over but I can't help but worry because I don't think my gpa is good enough.
Ugh. It's so annoying. In most universes, a 3.8 gpa is enough to throw a party and dance around for awhile, and instead i'm sitting here sobbing because I don't think it will be enough.
Anyway, I guess there's nothing I can do at this point but pray....
Ugh. How is it going for you guys? Who is waiting with me????????

HI want2banursesoon
your probably not going to like what i have to say but, i always feel like its best to know the truth instead of a bunch of rumors. last year the gpa was 3.774 but that was with an added 30 accelerated students. the real gpa would have been 3.799. the DMC took those 30 extra students at the very last second. there was also an understanding that those 30 would be offered a job upon graduation and the DMC hired 0 nurses from the previous class of 60 students (2009 class)and will not guarntee jobs to any of the 30 this year. while i dont know if they will offer accelerated class this year, it isnt looking good. so what does that all mean. Last year over 600 applicants applied and 267 students were taken. that left at least 333 students who either went somewhere else or went back to school to increase their gpa. Some of those (i think around 30) were offered the LPN course for JAN 2011. So that is 300 students who most likely went back to retake classes they did not get an A in. plus the students that were on track to apply after their first try. I hope you nothing but the best, but the compition is so stiff now that god only knows what the gpa will be to get in this upcoming year. i wish everyone luck.:)I was in the same boat last year and was panicing with a 3.85 cause i heard rumors that everyone needed a 3.9 to get in. this year that may really be the number.

Thank you whosurdaddy for that insight into the nursing gpa and the accelerated program, we never hear anything about them on campus.

There's always the LPN and then bridge route. LPN would start 4 months after the regular RN track and at least it's a foot in the door for those who don't make it.
I appreciate the information. Like I said, all I can really do at this point is hope and pray. I hope it works out for me, but I understand that realistically I may have to reapply. I hope not though! Ugh.

What other factors does OCC take into account besides GPA, if any?
It's only gpa from the 11 pre-reqs. It goes up every year, so if you want a spot, you need as close to a 4.0 as possible.

I heard from one of the professors who did LPN orientation (the same person who does info session). She said the RN cutoff next year will be higher.
I'm the one who applied last year but didn't get in. I retook classes and the best I could do was got all A- on all the classes that I retook. So my GPA is now 3.8xx. I am still not sure. So I took my certain spot for LPN track and I would bridge to RN later but I was told tat the bridge program is offered every event year.
Good luck to all who is waiting. I'm starting the program in 2 weeks. Woohoo let's the stress begins.
Merry Christmas all.
Yeah, if I don't get in this year, after crying for a really long time I have to figure out what I'm going to do. Since the LPN program due date is what, September first and I will hear by march whether I got into the RN track or not I have the summer semester to retake classes. If I retake them and get A's in them over the summer semester so that my gpa is as close to a 4.0 then I will wait and apply to the RN program again. The classes I'd retake are ones that both the LPN and RN program look at anyway. If I don't have at the very least a 3.97 then I am not going to risk the RN program again and I will apply to the LPN program. I think that's what i've decided to do. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that, but it might ;(
Good luck.
It's just my personal opinion that I didn't want to waste another year to start RN program.
LPN announces around October, starts January.
RN has longer period of time to start -announces in March and starts in September.
For the timeframe, if I were you, I would apply for both programs.
Whatever offers first, take it. If RN first, then Great!! If not, do the LPN, and bridge to RN later. You probably graduate before you get accepted and waste your dollars retaking classes. Plus, the bridge program takes everyone who applies. They don't look at GPA.
Anyhow, best of luck with your decision.
Thanks so much for the information! I have a question...I hear that the bridge program isn't offerred every year...it is offerred every even year? So, if I were to start the LPN program in January of 2012, when would I be done with the LPN program? When could I start the RN bridge, and when would it be over? This timeline is confusing lol :)
Thanks so much for all your help!
If you start LPN in 2012, you will be finish in 2013 sometimes in summer I.
You can apply in the same year to the bridge program to gaurantee your seat for 2014.
However, you need OCC lpn cert. and be hired at healthcare faculity to be able to apply. Wish I think you will. I hope that school change or has an exception that
We don't need to have a job before hand.
Anyway, I dont think you lose anything being apply to both programs. You only have more opportunities to decide when the time comes. If you don't get into RN, then you have other options. YOu can retake classes or get into LPN track. So you won't be disappoint in yourself when it was to late to apply. Then you still have an option to denie if your GPA is high enough for RN the next year.
And Yes to bridge program being offered every even year- 2012, 2014, 2016 ...
If I recall correctly, it's the same timeframe as LPN. You can check OCC nursing website for more accurate info. What I said is what I heard during my LPN orientation.
