My daughter was on her facebook and showed me that a friend of hers who works in a doctors office, had posted a picture of someones lab results with "HIV Positive" highlighted. The picture showed part of a soc sec # and a partial name. The girl who did this wrote : "LOL" under th pic and posted it to facebook.
How could this be reported? Who should I call? There were comments from her teenager friends telling her : Girl this a major violation of hippa!
Thank you for your replies!
Now I am trying to figure out what office she works at. All my daughter knows is that she works for her grandmas dentist. I was disgusted by her thinking it is funny that person is hiv positive. You would think that she would know better since she works with peoples health info, but obviously not.I thought I could at least see a clinic name on the sheet, but it isnt shown in the shot she posted.
OK, I work in dentistry. We do NOT have people's lab results as a matter of record. NEVER.
Facebook keeps logs of every single post and picture that is ever posted, so it doesn't matter if they pull it down or not. Our schools have used this function for bullying. Like I've said before, nothing ever disappears, it just seems that way. You can also report her to Facebook for abuse.
I already did that. I just checked her page again, and her friends are telling her to delete the post. She said she couldnt because she posted it from her phone. I am still trying to figure out who she works for. Obviously she isnt saying!! One of her friends just asked her and all she said was she worked for a dentist.Thank you for your replies.
Could your daughter ask her, just out of the blue?
"Hey, my dad (mom, brother) has an abscess and needs a dentist ASAP, I hear you work for one - is he good? Who is he?"
Dentists usually don't have lab reports, but they do have health history's that will show HIV and BBP statuses.

I am having a hard time believing this. Lab results, a partial SSN AND a partial name? Hmmm....definitely a HIPAA violation.
I doubt the friend will be LOLing when she is P-L-E-A-D-I-N-G her case in court.
