Nurses General Nursing

I am about 4 classes short of graduating with my BSN and I'm moving to Lafayette, LA in January. Does anyone have info on the Universities there? Online Programs that will allow me to do my clinicals in my hometown? Any information will be helpful...Thanks:D

StephB-

I'm not from LA, so can't help you there. You might want to try posting on the LA nurses forum or the student board as well.

Good luck with your move!

I lived there for about a year and a half several years ago. I didn't go to school at the time, but there is a university there. They call it "ou la la".:D :D Seriously, it is now the University of Louisana at Lafayette and is part of the LSU system. I know they have a nursing program there.

On a side note - I loved Lafayette! There are three hospitals; Lafayette General Medical Center, the University Medical Center (I worked there as a unit sec'y for a while), and the Womens and Childrens hospital. I'm partial to LGMC myself, but that is where my twins were born and had terriffic NICU care!!

Also, at least in my opinion, Lafayette was the perfect size town - just big enough to get a whole song in during a drive, small enough to not worry about a 1/2 hour commute. And the food is just amazing!!! If you have never tried Cajun food - you are going to the best place on earth to try it!!!

Sorry this is so long! I wish you luck!!

UL lafayette offers a BSN. It is a great nursing school, but unless things have changed, they don't accept many transfer credits, so you end up having to retake classes.

When you talk to your advisor, find out what classes they are willing to transfer and get it in writing!

UL is not part of the LSU system. Other options would be McNeese, it's in Lake Charles. Also, you could possibly finish with an online program, since you're almost done.

I graduated in '92 from LSU Eunice with my ADN, and then graduated from UL Lafayette in '99 with BSN.

Besides LGMC, OLOL, and UMC, Lafayette also has Medical Center Southwest, Women and Childrens, ParkPlace surgery center (an overnight hospital for people who are otherwise healthy).

Sometime around Feb. two new hospitals will be opening, Heart Hospital of Acadiana, and an ortho-Neuro hospital.

Good luck, if you need any more info on Lafayette let me know, I've lived here forever!
