obtaining an american nursing registration

Published

Hi,

I am an Australian registered nurse, divsion 1 and am currently looking into obtaining my nursing registration in Florida. I was hoping if someone could help me out with some information because i am getting so confused from looking at all the different websites. Firstly can i obtain my nursing registration without a social security number? Is the first thing apply to do is sit the NCLEX exam? Does anyone know if this is hard or what it is like? Then once i have obtained my result for this then do i apply for my visa? If anyone could point me in the right direction of who to contact regarding how to get this all started and if anyone has actually done what i'm trying to do can you plse tell me how you went about it all. Thanks so much!

the first website is about florida nursing, there your will find many links of information, and it is where i found the second link, where it tells you info regarding foreign trained nurses, as in your case.

what's stated bellow the second link is a direct quote from the website.

"1) if you were educated in a foreign country and are applying for exam, you are required to have your nursing education evaluated by one of the approved agencies listed below. contact the agency of your choice and request the full education course by course report. an original copy of the report must be sent to the board of nursing directly from the agency. you are responsible for all fees the agency charges for these services. after your application for licensure is processed and has been deemed complete, the board of nursing will review your educational evaluation and contact you with the status of your application in writing. please ensure that your mailing address is up to date throughout the application process."

Specializes in Advanced Practice, surgery.

there is a great deal of information written about this in the International forums of this site, I will move your post there but it is worth doing a search for the informatoin that you need there

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Follow instructions for International educated nurse and you do need CES completing before you send in your Florida application. Much has already been written on Florida so suggest a search. Also what visa will you be applying for? Then we can make sure you get the right information

You will have to pass NCLEX and Florida will not give you a license without a SSN
