... some times packing lists are not recommendations but requirements. I'm not sure how that OBC will be... but there are schools that the in processing begins as you 'dump our ruck' and packing list is read off... discrepancies are noted... excess is collected and tossed.
Me personally - like to pack lite - the cool guy stuff rarely pays off compared to the essentials
hey there!! i went to oblc in august of 08, and what a blast. challenging and annoying at times, but fun nonetheless and full of great new experience and great new friends. i was prior service enlisted and have been deployed so i had a good idea of what to bring. one thing i always reccomend is really good socks. not the kind that come in a pack of four for 15 bucks, but 15-20 bucks per pair. they last forever and make all the difference in comfort and not being one of the people limping around on profile. try tonsofsocks.com. i like the bridgedale hikers. also essential....and inflatable mat, and small pillow. the hiking kind that is very compact. baby wipes are KEY, and alot of the girls bring special girly type wipes. a head lamp comes in handy, especially if you have to get up in the tent in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom! also, go to a real running store and get a really good pair of running shoes. especially if your not all that atheletic. i mean spend a hundred bucks if you need to. make sure its a place where they really measure your feet, and it should not feel like you have to break them in. and also, lots of motrin!!! vitamin m!! good luck
To add to this great thread:
When I went to OBC I remember right before we all went off to Camp Bullis they had "the talk" to the female Officers and kind of gave us hints on what to bring along...I know that some of the women used a lady partsl cup (??) for when they had their menses....But since I am an old fart:D I really didn't have to deal with that....plus baby powder to use on the hair since you won't be able to shower or wash your hair while out in the field...I agree baby wipes are KEY, I brought along a leatherman.....I did bring along a smaller-type torch/flashlight but I really didn't have much time to read (either I was dead tired or I had 0200 patrol duty)
HAVE FUN and STAY SAFE
athena
I concur......leatherman with scissors(small, no pliers), baby wipes for face and for body (2 types), baby powder (liberal amounts), superior socks, superior boots, ear plugs, flash light red/white........OTC sleep meds, if needed.
I used the same ACU's for 5 days straight.....but we had NO rain.
have a great time!!! and ALWAYS be on time,
c.

Hello
Hey:redbeathe for those of you that have attended OBC already :redbeathe
I have a question: :twocents:I am beginning to think about getting some supplies together for my trip to OBC and I was wondering is there anything you would recommend outside of the list (thanks Cindy I still have yours
) that you would consider a life saver to bring???
and any on that OBC packing list that they put on the OBLC site that are unnecessary that we don't need to bring?
thank you in advance
Edie
