what do OB techs do???
We are all CNA's and we have taken Basic Fetal Monitoring Class, DOULA class, NRP (newborn resesitation) through our hospt. In the near future, we are going to scrub for C-Sections also. Still trying to work out the details on that so who knows when that will be :)
so you don't need to take a Ob tech class?
If I was you, I would check with your local hospitals and see what training/certification they would prefer you have.
Did you check out www.dona.org? I took their Doula course and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who is working or going to work in OB. There are other doula training courses besides Dona....check online to see what is available in your area.
Our OB techs are really "OR techs"; they scrub for sections and other procedures; sometimes they prep the patient; they set up, maintain and stock all supplies, including OR tables and delivery carts; they take the baby out to the peds team if necessary during lady partsl deliveries; and they can take baby down to the nursery if they're available. They don't do direct patient care (unlike patient care techs/nursing assistants) but they're really, really handy to have on the unit.Altalorraine
Same where I work. Might also be advertised as Surgical Tech postition when posted. On our unit techs have to be Cert. Surg Techs, which means about 3-4 semesters of school. SG
yes i'm thinking about it! but I was looking for jobs for OB tech and couldn't find any? is there another name for it?
Some hospitals call them clinical assistants, patient care techs, patient care associates, ect. You would just have to look for something like that in the L&D department. Good Luck!
so seeing how alot of you have been an OB Tech... what kind of math do you have to know? cause i got hired on as an OB and they are giving me a math test and they said its applied math... so i was trying to find out what kind of math applied to an OB. Also... OBs they dont do any charting or have to look off charts do they?? like do they have to know and abbrieviations?
thank you
