I am just curious. Would you ever work in an abortion clinic? Would you give pills that would cause an abortion? Thanks

Thanks, LPN2Be2004,nurseunderwater,NCgirl. Emotions get hot with subjects as this, as we are what we believe. Condemning others for what they believe doesn't prove them wrong and polarizes people even further. Sometimes we just have to take a deep breath and acknowlege that each position has merit. Difficult for all concerned, but ultimately the right thing to do!

:o I don't believe in abortions!

YES. As a nurse it it is your responsibility to support the patient in whatever his/her beliefs are. Example: If a family wants their 90 year old mother with dementia to have both legs amputated because she has non-healing sores on her feet, and you know that there is going to be no improvement, and wouldn't want it done to you, would you refuse to take care of this patient? There are going to be things that you agree with and disagree with througout your nursing career. You have to learn not to be judgemental in others' choices.

You have the right to decide what to do with your body, shouldn't everyone else have the same choice. And I do not believe that abortion should be a means of birth control, as it is for some, but I think that the choice should be yours alone, and not the government's................

Suzanne, some of us believe this issue goes beyond the type of example you referred to (which is not a bad example, but its like comparing apples and oranges). Some of us see this as killing of an innocent life. I would not assist in an abortion, even if it is in my job description to do so.

No, It's just not a good idea. When I was younger in my teens and into my early thirties, I didn't have a problem with a mother's right to choose. As I have matured (and please believe me when I say this, because we all change and think differently as we grow and mature), I find I believe differently. I still want to repect the rights of women to choose to do as they wish with their own bodies, but I find myself wishing more and more often that that choice would be made before conception of life. I think that if I would have helped with and abortion when I was 25, I would be regretting that decision today. Mothers who have to face pregnancy do to rape, incest, or congenital anomalies certainly have my sympathies, but even then I believe that ending a life is fundamentally wrong.

I don't believe that a girl/woman should be forced to carry a product (yes i realize, a living being, before someone reminds me that it is) of rape or incest with her. What they need are caring compassionate people that help them with whatever choice they have. And i'm glad the choices are there.

The posts in the thread "Youngest Labor Patient" are prime examples of why i would assist 100%.

I don't participate in the Republican/Democrat style of divisive and corrosive politics, so I ain't telling.

Keeping in mind that the Republicrats use abortion, etc., as a strategy to whip their supporters into an emotional frenzy to get re-elected, would you like to work together on a strategy that takes some power away from incumbent politicians? You know, 98.7% of Congress was re-elected last election. They are spending $$$$$$$$$$$$.$$ like drunken sailors.

How many of you would actually throw away your vote for some jerk b/c you are WORRIED about who may get appointed to the Supreme Court? As P.T. Barnum would say: Sucker! ... hook line and sinker. They got you wrapped around their pinky finger.

It's a strategy to get relected so they, Republicans and Democrats, can spend your money. Take a close look at your retirement account, your debt, your bills, dreams for your kids, college fund, vacations. Then look at the amount of income taxes, property taxes, gasoline taxes, hotel taxes, sin taxes, phone taxes, sales taxes, interest taxes etc, etc etc.

Then look what you get in return:

How do you like your health benefits these days? Are you afraid of getting really sick? Does it bother you that Americans workers get less benefits than any other industrialized nation? And why, after 35 years of Republicrat "reforms" is education so snarled in bureaucracy and failing so miserably? How is it since WWII that America has gone from the most loved and admired country to the most hated? Parents, do you care that the reenlistment rate is plummeting and there is discreet talk about reinstating the draft?

Republicrats are masters at Bait and Switch. Talk about abortion (gay marriage, etc) so there's no oxygen to discuss anything else. Why put up with this cr*p year after year after year?

How about limiting the terms of House members to a total of 6 years??? How about getting more people into the Chairmenship of Congressional committees and sub-committees?

Yes -- this requires some disipline not to get pulled into this fight. It's hard. I know. I've been very opinionated about these issues in the past. And I have learned by experience that it's just a political ploy that unfortunately works.

Whatever our respective planks on emotional/religous issues, could we not work together to make our country more democratic? That is the conversation that the Republicrats never want us to have. They use abortion as a wedge issue to keep otherwise good people at odds with each other.

No, I will not assist in abortions. I believe abortion is wrong, in every circumstance.

I don't believe that abortion is a "right" of women. The fundamental definition of a right is something that someone is entitled to, no matter what, in every circumstance. If women had the "right" to receive abortions, doctors would have to provide them free to any woman, at any time, for any reason. How many nurses would be willing to get out of bed at 3:00 in the morning because some pregnant women rings their doorbell and want a free abortion? The nurse would have to do it, if women have the "right" to receive abortions.

Regarding the rape/incest issue...the victim does not have the right to kill the person who wrongs them, so why should she have the right to kill the "product" of the act? I do not follow that rationale at all.

I completly agree with Laura and jantze. The definition of murder is killing a life or ending a life. What is abortion? Aborting a baby. Aborting means ending, killing. If the baby is a "product" of rape I believe you still do not have the right to kill that child. Whether you are 10 or 30 it is still your child and it is still ending that life. You cannot fight the issue of abortion by saying that the baby inside of the woman is not really a baby. You may say that and say that you can but I am sorry, that BABY inside of you was made from either your unfortunate circomstances or your willingness to have intercourse. Once again may I say it is irresponsible to kill your baby.

I've never been in situation where I had to make a decision to assist or not. And I believe that women should have the right to choose, and that we as health care professionals owe them safe care. There are plenty of medical situations we face daily that we don't believe in (incest, rape, babies having babies, rapists, drug pushers, etc.) but we give those people the best of care in spite of our personal beliefs, don't we? I don't feel that I'm pro-abortion, but I am pro-choice and there's a big difference.

If ever I found myself in a situation facing an unwanted pregnancy (which certainly won't happen now, thankfully) I can't honestly say what I would do. I'm sure I would be conflicted about what to do. But at my very core, it is my decision to make, no one else's. No one!

As a health care professional, I choose not to put my own religious or political beliefs at the forefront to take precedence over the proper and safe care of a patient in need.

so...its okay to parade around Pro choice BUT its not okay for Anti abortionist to do the same? If theres "nothing wrong with it", then why not let everyone see what it is really like? Why should explaining that to your kids be any different then explaining ...say the birds and the bees?

Yes, I would provide all care needed for the patient.

No, I would never have anything to do with the process of abortion.

Yes, it is the woman's choice, she made that choice when she decided to put herself at risk of preg. in the first place.

Abortion should not be used as birth control or a means of erasing a bad decision.

Abortion should be reserved for extreme cases only.
