What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

just admitted a patient tonight by the name of tequilla....i have heard of margarita, but tequilla?!?!

a girl i graduated from high school with had a middle name of aspen. said her parents gave her that name because that is where she was conceived.

OHMIGOD!!!!!!!!!!! I was laughing so hard at this my husband actually came OUT OF THE BEDROOM to see what was so funny. You guys, I really needed this. I thought we were the only ones down here who had a largely illiterate population naming their children. Thanks. I have been working for four months now and have seen these... A mother named her baby Donald Donn. We called him Don Don, which isn't too bad, although a bit redundant. I had a mom name her baby LaQuinta, and I thought it was hispanic, but when I asked her how she chose the name, she said that was where the baby was conceived. (LaQuinta Inn, do ya'll have those?) The cake taker was a young, fifteen year old girl who had her second baby. The first was taken away from her, and when she was in delivery, she kept pushing. The doctor kept yelling, 'Stop, STOP!'. Guess what she named her son? Stop Jones. Yep. She said it was to remind her of how horrible it felt to give birth- every time she'd get near to having sex, she'd STOP. ROFL!!! We laughed for weeks about that one...wondered how she could reprimand her child as he got older- 'Stop, Stop!'. If she was telling him to move forward, she'd have to say, 'Go, Stop.' ROFLROFLROFL. We also just had a mom who named her beautiful daughter CANDIDA. We tried to explain, but she wasn't hearing any of it. I think this is hilarious...just think, someday, some nurse will be saying, I heard of this baby named Stop... We heard the 'Nosmoking' story down here ...nurse who told it SWORE she was there. Too funny!! She said they pronounced it 'Nozz-mo-king'. Whether it's true or not I'll never know, but makes you want to cry, doesn't it? Keep this post up...I can't wait to print it out and show it around at work.

There is a thread on General Nursing Discussion about a case of child neglect that everyone should read for other reasons...but I mention it here because the babies name is Ice.

The funniest name I ever struck was "Jarrah" (a type of wood). This wouldn't have been funny if the young patient's surname wasn't "Kitchen". (Perhaps his baby brother/ sister will be "Huon Pine" or "Tasmanian Oak")

Another I heard of was a boy called Onyx - b/c he was "onyx-pected"

As a nurse as a poison center a few years ago, we had a call from a mother who said her child's name was (it sounded like) "Shi-theed". She was asked to spell it for the record, and mom spelled "S-h-i-t-h-e-a-d". What a way to go through life...

I've heard the Female, orangejello and lemonjello go around. I've done peds, peds homehealth and L&D. 1 Family I've seen in all 3 situations has 9 kids. The oldest is Seqoia. Then there are Fred, Grover, Mabel and others. The youngest 2 boys are Love Child and China Guy. Seqoia is now old enough she's having her own. :D

AS AN L&D NURSE, I HAVE HEARD TONS OF ODD BABY NAMES, BUT IN THE LAST YEAR, I HAVE SEEN THE TWO ODDEST NAMES IN MY CAREER. THEY WERE BOTH NAMES OF THE MOM-TO-BE. ONE WAS NAMED "SEXYBIRD" AND THE OTHER WAS JANUARYFEBRUARY MARCH" (MARCH WAS THE MIDDLE NAME!)

SEXYBIRD???!!! SEXYBIRD???!!!

Just....just....speechless....

Praytell, how did you address miss SEXYBIRD? Did you call her Sexy, bird, sexybird, or just MA'AM??? I would have had to take a moment to compose myself before going into that room....

SEXYBIRD???!!??

Ten bucks says her parents were stoned when they named her.

Dear Bungies,

I took care of little Onyx. He was severely bruised from a traumatic delivery. His older brother was named Bronze. He was severely jaundiced. I kid you not!

WE ADDRESSED SEXYBIRD BY HER LAST NAME, PRECEDED BY MS., OF COURSE! :D WE WILL NEVER FORGET HER, THAT'S FOR SURE!:chuckle

I have a patient on my unit named Richard Head...I KID YOU NOT!!!!! My mom went to school with a girl named Candy, which is ok...except...her last name was............BARR!!!!! Now that is way bad!!! I went to school with girls by the last name of Carter, Austin, and Braden. They all now have boys with those names (first names). I think that is kinda cool. It would NEVER have worked with my last name!!!!!

Shari

Took care of a child recently named Celestial Pillow:)
