I've worked on mother-baby units with LPNs, and one LDRP unit where an LPN functioned as a scrub tech for C-sections, and "teamed-up" with an RN to do patient care when there weren't any OR cases.
We recently (about 2 years ago) "got rid" of all our LPNs in L and D, nursery, and PP. It was really bad cause we had a great LPN that left our hospital all together. She had been doing PP for years and she was great! We still talk to her and miss her.
There is one LPN on our floor, and I think she was "grandfathered" in because we don't hire LPNs for our floor and haven't for a while, if I'm not mistaken. This particular one has been on that floor longer than I've been alive and she knows a whole lot more than I ever will.
We have one LVN - our post-partum moms are on the same floor as our med-surg patients and yes, she can care for them too. But not in labor and delivery.

I am currently a nursing student (LPN) I really am dying to work in OB. My question is in previous experiences does the OB unit hire LPN's to work?
