Just curious what your facility does for the first baby of the New Year. It's always seemed like a fun thing to me, and I've noticed some hospitals make a big deal of it, while others do nothing much.

Oh lawd, it's a HUGE deal here. :chuckle You get featured on the news, get a huge gift basket, dinner, bunches of freebies....it's a big ol' deal.

And no, I won't tell you where I live. :D

It's a pretty big deal here. New crews lurking at all the hospitals waiting for word of the first baby.

I always giggle a little when it's some cracked out toothless unmarried 16 year old. :chuckle

It is a big deal here too, however, the Y2K baby was a huge deal. News crews etc, we had all of the gifts brought down on NYE to put "on display" for news crews, it took up a whole room!!!! It was so ridiculous!!!!!

We do pretty much the same as everyone else. Lots of free gifts. Lots of news crews around. Last year our hospital had the first baby in the county for the new year. However we were accused of telling this mother not to push so that she could have her baby on Jan 1st. This was not true, she was a multip and could barely control anything. I think she started pushing at 12:59....

The Y2K baby for our county was born to a 14 year old:rolleyes: I have to remind my 14 year old to brush his teeth everday for crying out loud! :confused: He would not have the first clue of what to do with a baby!! I met this girl too, and she definitely was not the brightest bulb in the marquee!!:D I feel sorry the baby. Wonder what kind of life it will have?

We never get the states new years baby. Our competetor schedules sections for midnight... the bastages..

I think way too much hullaballo is made over a the "new year's baby"........and yep, as the others have said, so often much ado is made over a poor soul born to a crackhead or meth addict.....or someone of the who sort who is clueless and has no appreciation for the life-changing event childbirth is.

About the same up here....

One thing that is kinda cute at my hospital though is that everytime a baby is born they play Brahm's Lullaby throughout the whole hospital over the PA system.

We also play a lullaby over the PA system when a baby is born but only in the Women's Center.
