usually give to baby's that have pain? I need this info for a care plan and I can't find anything anywhere that tells me what is given? Except for sucrose. What do you guys do in your Post partum units w/ babies who still have pain--do you have standing orders? Thanks SSSOOOO much!:monkeydance:

I have occasionally seen physicians who will order a couple of doses of liquid tylenol after a circumcision. Not very often though.

It varies. Some dr's use local anesthetics. Others just have us give Sweet-Ease to comfort the newborn. It really does vary. It's not a pretty procedure to witness, nor endure, I would daresay.

particularly after a Gomco, the babies seem uncomfortable. We will often put vaseline on a small gauze and put that between the member and diaper to prevent sticking. Sad but true those little guys seem pretty painful sometimes.

I'm in my Maternity rotation right now and where I am, they are giving Tylenol 40mg PO (liquid).

Our docs use a local and we give them SweetEase... they are usually pretty content afterwards.

Ok, thanks for that specific dosage--that really helped with a hypothetical situation I am creating for a concept map!
