Pre-nursing students applying for Fall 2020/Winter 2021 start date at Oakland Community College

Hello all ?

I am applying for Oakland Community College Nursing program in a few weeks and have loads of questions. Are you applying too? What's the GPA cut off? If you've graduated from or attended the program, how was/is it? Which is better, fall or winter start?

I am excited to apply and excited to meet other applying as well! We've got this!

@knrogers54321 I’m ready but I’m not....like, if it’s a rejection letter then it can take it’s sweet *** time coming! I get the anxious/turning stomach feeling when I think about the date getting closer!

Terrified mostly! If it's a rejection letter there will be one piece of paper in the envelope, 2 if you're accepted!

I really hope everyone gets in. The point system is kind of lame. Transferred classes shouldn't cause points to be deducted, especially if the person got A's in those classes. But that's the way it works sadly. Good luck everyone!

Hello. I applied to the nursing program for hopefully fall 2020 start. Has anyone heard how many applicants this year? When I went to the information session the room was overly filled, made me so nervous!

@RTtoRNKey keep in mind a lot of people attend the information session when they are first starting out with their pre-reqs. When I went to my info session, I had waited until I was finished with my pre-reqs, and a majority of people there were just starting, or transferring and finishing a few pre-reqs. I tried calling and finding out, but haven't been told how many people applied this year. I'll continue to try and find out.

A lot of people in my classes told me they were applying to the nursing program, but then they also told me that they were B and C average students. It gives me hope that maybe the cut off scores will be a bit lower this year.

I tried calling to see how many students applied or if they have a cutoff score but Ms. Mary told me the won’t know until they send out letters next month lol. I have a question about scoring. I have 3 B, 1 B+, 1 A. Which gives me 16.7. Two of those classes are transfers And no repeats. How do i get my score. Do you subtract for transfers or do you just not add the additional points. Hope this makes sense as I am confused lol.

@RTtoRNKey You're lookin at a score of 14.78, which is great and I wouldn't stress about getting in if I were you!

Your GPA score comes out to 9.78, then three points are added because of no repeats, and another two points are added because you have to have more than 8 credits transferred over for points to be deducted.

Ugh I hope so, my zero points for retakes really keep my score down even with a 3.7....other candidates with lower GPAs are making the cut just because they dont have retakes it's so discouraging! Hope this year is my year!

@RTtoRNKey the cut off last year was around 12 something I think. You did great!
