OAKLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2019

Pre-nursing students applying for Fall 2020/Winter 2021 start date at Oakland Community College

Published

Hello all ?

I am applying for Oakland Community College Nursing program in a few weeks and have loads of questions. Are you applying too? What's the GPA cut off? If you've graduated from or attended the program, how was/is it? Which is better, fall or winter start?

I am excited to apply and excited to meet other applying as well! We've got this!

Hey,

I also applied and I’m kind of anxious already! My counselor told me that winter start has the of not having such a huge competition when it comes to applying to jobs after graduation. Since everyone tends to go for fall start (including BSN students) it’s said to be a little harder to find a job or graduate nurse programs to get into. Other than that it’s up to you and how many spots are available for each cohort.

Wishing everyone luck hope we all get in!

@TrustTheProcess16 I was actually thinking of selecting the winter start so that I don't have to take pharm in the summer! Mico was difficult but doable in my summer semester, but I can't imagine how pharm will be ?

@knrogers54321 I was thinking to take the winter start for the same reason along with a few others, the schedule just works better for me. Good thing that those who usually requests winter gets it. Yea I couldn’t imagine taking either of those classes in summer semester!

@knrogers54321 @TrustTheProcess16 hopefully we all get in!!!! I will be choosing the winter as well. I am a dual enrolled student between OCC and OU, and have 2 semesters to finish up at OU before putting in my nursing application for there!! So Winter works better for me, so I can get those 2 semesters finished!!!!

@Asidelko @TrustTheProcess16 I'm just so excited to get accepted and finally be in the program! My husband is an ER nurse right now and loves it. He said that the program is hard but not as hard as some people make it out to be. I hope/think we'll all get accepted and do great. Please keep me updated on your acceptance letters when they get sent out ?

@Asidelko my friend took most of her pre reqs at OCC and then I believe one or two classes at OU and got accepted into both nursing programs, chose OU, and absolutely loves it. She says it's hard, and you can't work much, but it's 100% doable and her classmates rock. I believe her GPA was around a 3.8 or 3.9!

@knrogers54321 Yes! I absolutely love OU!!! I started at OCC before I did OU, and figured I should probably finish what I started lol and after learning they deduct points for transfer credits (which I think is ridiculous), I kinda lost hope about their program and started looking elsewhere!

We all need to keep each other updated! If by some miracle we all get in, it'll be nice to not go in blind sided with not really knowing people!!

Guys, has anyone have any information about the number of people applying this year?

@Magda EM Nothing yet. The staff is back on campus on January 2nd, I plan on calling the nursing department to see if they will tell me

Let us know, please!

I applied for the 2nd year in a row. My score is 13.2 due to no points for repeats, otherwise my gpa is a 3.7.... last years cut off was 13.4 but also last year they werent able to accept all 215 people because of some issue with one of their clinical rotations or thats what my counselor told me when I turned in my app a couple months ago! I'm ready for March 16th to be here and wish everyone the best of luck!

Good luck to you too!
