OAKLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2019

Pre-nursing students applying for Fall 2020/Winter 2021 start date at Oakland Community College

Published

Hello all ?

I am applying for Oakland Community College Nursing program in a few weeks and have loads of questions. Are you applying too? What's the GPA cut off? If you've graduated from or attended the program, how was/is it? Which is better, fall or winter start?

I am excited to apply and excited to meet other applying as well! We've got this!

Yeah it says nursing applicant and major is nursing. My catalog says 2015, what does that mean?

My catalog says 2018 so for some reason it's like yours is stuck on the prereqs from a few years ago, which are different from what they are now. I wonder if the counselor used the wrong catalog or if it's just the website.

This is so strange. Michelle's says 2017, I wonder why they are all different. I can't even find anything on past catalogs.

For instance if you are going for Business let’s say for catalog year 2019 and you won’t have your degree until 2020, but in 2020 they add two new classes to the completion of the degree you won’t have to take them because they don’t fall within the catalog year you started. I’m not sure about classes being taken away though. I’m sure it works in reverse.

Yeah this is all confusing to me. I've done everything in the admission guide so I'll just have to contact them and ask.

Don't let it stress you out. This entire process is confusing.

I believe, dont quote me, that you are required to have a P.E for the Applied Science Associates Degree from OCC not necessarily for the nursing program itself. So much has changed since starting school I could be wrong!

Okay so I finally got through and talked to the Dean. She said that we can basically disregard the progress report and that they don't go by that anymore. PE is not required and everyones catalog/requirements are the same. Hopefully that helps for anyone else having this problem! Thanks for your guys' help as well:)

I'm glad you got it all figured out ?

Does anyone know if a lot of the nursing classes are going to be at the highland lakes campus? I heard that quite a few are also at the Southfield campus.

I'm not sure I thought we'd be at one or the other!

I wonder if we're able to choose based on what we live closer too. That would be awesome. I'm getting so anxious and want to just be accepted already!

Southfield campus does have a few classrooms and a lab I’ve seen in the “nursing hallway”, so I guess there will be a few. My counselor did tell me most of the classes are only offered at Highland Lakes campus.
