Hello everyone,,

is is anyone here waiting for their acceptance letter to Oakland community college? Also are there any students here that is currently in the program? I am really pump to get started and is looking for any advice I can receive about the program in general.

Hey what's up Brie? Everything is coming alone on this end, just anxious to start and get it over with. So far I have only been studying my clinical calculations book. I'm waiting to start class to see how the instructor teach before reading the nursing process book. Hope everyone is doing fine and ready to hit the ground running.

Hi there,

Seems like you have a pretty good start to things. I read the first chapter of the nursing process book and will work on chapter 2 today probably. I started the homework for the clinical calculations and the goal is to have it done by Monday. My plan is to stay a week ahead in class...hopefully I stay consistent with that because it looks like a lot to read and do every week, but we'll see.

I had the same plan Brie! Hoping to stay 1 week ahead at least. So far, I've read Chapters 1-5 in the book and all the few pages extra from chapters 6,7,8 and 9 that is listed in Unit 1. I hope to start the calculations tonight and all the assignments for Unit 1 completed by the time we start class.

Worried I may have wasted my time with all the reading from the lecture book, but I guess we will find out. At least it didn't hurt, right? lol

Can't wait to meet everyone and tackle this class head on!

Oh wow Jasmine you're really getting a head start! That's awesome.... why do you think it would be wasted though??? If anything I would think it would give you an advantage going into the semester. But I'm with you, I'm ready to get over these first day jitters and get rolling.

Lord I need to start reading that big ass book!:specs:

Well, not so much wasted.. but maybe could have used my time a little more wisely and studied things we for sure will need to know. I think it's smart to start with the calculations book for sure now looking back. But like you said, it may benefit me!

Glad to know I'm not the only nervous one though! lol

Come on guys I am anxious to know.....How was everyone's first day of school:yes:

What's up soaring? The first day of school for me, was exactly what I expected. A lot of information thrown at us, but definitely managable if you stay organized. My instructor is very nice and so far seems like she still enjoy what she does. People like her makes it easier to learn. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with some words of encouragement and immediately started and completed "Unit one". Which consist of "Nine chapters". After that we went over some basic medication calculations practice problems and ended the class. Hope this was informative enough and let me know if you want to know anything else.

Word of Advice: GET A HEAD START BY READING and getting familiar with terms, abbreviations, formulas for setting up equations, etc.... NOW! You will be WAY ahead of the game.

Did anyone else feel a bite accomplished while walking to class or was it just me? :smug::cool:

Hi soaring,

So I guess I'll be the one to admit that I didn't feel prepared for all the information that was given to us the first day. I felt like the whole lecture just blew by me. In addition to that I am overwhelmed with the homework so much so that I'm not getting any reading done. I guess I'm just having some adjustment issues. The teacher seems really passionate about nursing though and seems really easy to talk to as far as if you need help. So I'll probably be utilizing the tutoring there as well as talking with her. But I think it's just a lot to me because I've been out of school for awhile and I'm rusty on some of my math. But it's early on so we'll see what the next 6 weeks hold.

Thanks FutureNurseKelvin and Brie! I am very intimidated by this course but I guess we all are because this will be new to all of us! Brie you got this and I am praying for a fantastic outcome for all of us. I am wondering about this orientation tomorrow that's 4 hours long....that's a lot of information:nono:

Hey Brie what class do you have? I'm usually at school 2-6pm. If you ever need some help breaking down any of the math topics, I can help along with going to tutoring. We can meet up in the library if you have class that time and not the morning time. I also know a couple of people in my pharm class that are more than happy to help as well. It seem like I'm one of two African American guy in that program so I'm not hard to find lol. Was just thinking the same thing Soaring lol. 4 hours is a long time esp for me because I have an attention span of a two year old haha.
