O Grady Peyton and Preferred Healthcare

Can anyone tell me if either of these companies are affiliated or owned by other traveling companies. (Ex: I have heard that American Mobile is afilliated in some way with Medical Express.) Are either O Grady Peyton or Preferred Healthcare affiliated, owned, sister or parent companies with other companies? And does anyone recommend one of these over the other? If so, Why? And thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Is American Mobile company related to Medical Express Company?

Medical Express is owned by American Mobile (not a fact they advertise), I worked for Med. Express for over a year (four years ago), and I didn't know that until my third assignment.

Specializes in ER, Pedi ER, Trauma, Clinical Education.

AMN Services owns the following companies:

Nurses Rx

Preferred Healthcare (who I work for now)

Ogrady Peyton

Medical Express

American Mobile (who I started with)

I think there are one or two more, but I can't remember their names. Okay, I haven't really had much of an issue with working for AMN. The housing has been good, in fact getting to stay in brand new units in trendy areas of town. The 401K options are good, not stellar, but good. The pay rate is not the most in the world, but they are actually quite reasonable and sometimes higher than their largest competitor. The housing has always been free private housing (while the largest competitor just started that this year and was paying their nurses less). AMN has contracts with some of the more nationally recognized centers that other companies cannot get (Stanford is one which immediately comes to the top of my head). Plus, AMN usually only JCAHO accredited facilities. One of my friend (who has now moved to AMN from the largest competitor) was placed on assignment in a hospital which was a private NON JCAHO accredited institution. Unfortunately, she did not find out until she was already on assignment, and the travel company never let her know. She had to find out after an extremely harrowing, license threatening, personal and patient safety issue laiden 6 weeks. And then the company penalized her for leaving her contract two weeks early, despite the fact that she had completed all of her required hours.

This is not to say that AMN is perfect, in fact, no travel company is. However, if you look at the TOTAL benefit and experience package, I think that AMN comes out on top.

I, on the other hand, had serious problems with AMN. Problems with recruiters blatantly lying about contract issues, repeated late paychecks d/t "glitches in their payroll IS (every single pay period for 4 monthes).

Some other problems: Trying to place me in a facility that had a strike pending - I made it clear that I do not strike break - I found evidence that they lied about knowing about the strike. Telling me to call a strict "do not call" facility, ruining my chances for an assignment that I really wanted. That and not warning about PBDS testing. Virtually every other agency that have dealt with warns the traveler about being bounced if one does not pass PBDS and which places do that testing.

As far as preferred contracts, other major competitors has the same thing. However, for my specialty, the facilities are much better with AMNs competitors. For example, in NYC, AMN is the sole agency for NYU....the ratios are notoriously poor there. For CCTC, they are the sole agency for NYP Cornell and Columbia, with much better agencies (and also consistantly rated in the top 10 in the Nation).

When I started with AMN, they did not pay for private housing.

As such , I no longer work with them.

i was curious about this thread and done a web search just typing in companies owned by amn healthcare and found the above info included in a report. i know when i filled out the on-line application, several recruiters called me and everyone said to go with the first person i talked with because they all use the same assignment database. i know on my paycheck stub it reflects o'grady-peyton but my bank (direct deposit) shows it from amn healthcare.

i am currently on assignment with "o'grady-peyton" and my recruiter has been excellent to work with. he calls me at least once a week and keeps me updated on potential future assignments and just to see how i am doing. i was really impressed with that. now whether i continue with them will depend on what they have available that fits in my time frame.

anyway hope this helps a little............

is o'grady peyton really bad? they are VERY heavily marketed here in australia as the "best" company in USA for travel RN...

AMN..aka the evil empire...and it's affiliates, I have had problems with several of them...however because of their size they often have more contracts in areas and better housing...but I've been lied to, had late checks or just missing money, and nickel and dimed on every penny...if you want your reinbursements then expect a fight...I prefer the smaller companies, the money is often better and the service is great, however as I said above, they might not contract with a specific contract or area that you are interested in.

Yes, they are very bad.

AMN does own multi travel companies and now agency is going to 100% perfect. It all comes down to your Recruiter and how they handle the bad news and how they look out for you.
