Hi all,

I was wondering about the likelihood of being able to go straight into nursing in the Calgary area after finishing my Bachelor of Nursing (3yrs) and being registered over here.

My fiance's brother and his Canadian wife were suggesting that we move over when we're married, saying that the job market is very good over there at the moment. I'm currently just trying to get an idea of the possible difficulties with doing that - cost of living, ease of getting a job, eligibility for healthcare and maternity leave should we be so blessed while we're over there. If anyone has any information, that would be great. I'm a British citizen and we'd be looking at staying for about a year.

Thanks Janfrn,

I would like to know when CARNA do assement. What is it usually based on? Do they check the experince? I only have 2 years experince in ICU department so i am not too sure if that would consider to be good experince by CARNA.Does anybody know if ICU nurses are high in demand?

May be we can help each other out in the registration process.

Hi, I would like to know how long does CARNA usually take to process temporary registration cases.

Thank you

I would count on six months to a year. There's a lot of bureaucratic shuffling that goes on, proof to be tracked down and assessments to be made. When I moved from Manitoba to Alberta in 2002, the process took more than three months and it was all Canadian information. Now there are so many more nurses wanting to move here that resources are pretty stretched.

Hi everybody, I got the job offer in canada should be leaving early january. I am also taking my husband along with me. My question is when you take your spouse..Are they allowed to work..Do they get work permit from canadian high commission?
