NYU vs. Adelphi

Published

I've been accepted to both NYU and Adelphi as a second degree student, but am more inclined to attend Adelphi since I live on Long Island and the commute would be quick and easy. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not it makes a significant difference on my future as a nurse? Thanks so much.

adelphi has the lowest pass rate for the state boards. North shore refuses to hire adelphi RNs because they come out of school completely incompetent.

If you can get accepted to the associate degree schools, you will be the best nurse.

can I ask where on Earth you got that information?? I find it hard to believe that North Shore refuses Adelphi RNs.

I personally know 2 RNs who are Adelphi graduates and are working @ North Shore, so I know for a fact that this statement is crock.

I cannot confirm or deny the second part of that statement, but I do know that the pendulum swings with stuff like that. Schools have reputations within the hospitals, and it does depend on how they are doing on NCLEX percentages (which Adelphi's has been low over the past couple of years, this I do have first hand knowledge of, b/c faculty gets reports from NY state, to see where we compare with other schools).

It also depends on their performance while in clinicals at the institution. If a clinical group casues any sort of 'trouble' on a unit, unfortunately this reflects poorly on the school. Like it or not, fair or not, sometimes one or two bad apples can spoil the bunch. Which is why instructors go nuts if you are not looking busy, texting on the unit, shcewing gum, etc, while you should be doing something. Ask any nurse on a hopsital unit, and they could tell you which students are better than others on the units (as a whole). I am not saying Adelphi falls into the 'bad' group. Just saying you guys are being watched.

It is quite possible that those who were hired at NS (from Adelphi) had other circumstances that got them the job. Or were hired back in the day, when their NCLEX rates were better (if this is even an accurate statement).
