I've been accepted to both NYU and Adelphi as a second degree student, but am more inclined to attend Adelphi since I live on Long Island and the commute would be quick and easy. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not it makes a significant difference on my future as a nurse? Thanks so much.

I keep hearing that it's more important that you have your RN license from an accredited college rather than the name of the college. Obviously, the University of Phoenix (online) would not be considered reputable, but Adelphi, NYU, etc., are. Also, an externship while a nursing student would also give you a boost later on when job hunting. I'm partial to Adelphi because the tuition is more reasonable.

Just out of curiosity..At NYU, did you apply for Spring and when did you find out you got in?
Thanks!
I'm attending Adelphi now. I applied to NYU for the Fall of '08 as well, and found out I was accepted there 1 month prior to the start of classes.

Yes, I applied for Spring 09 as a second degree student. I found out on Saturday that I was accepted.

I just applied to both, keeping my fingers crossed. I would love to go to NYU if I get in. Quick question. Did you have to submit SAT scores to NYU as a second degree student? I took mine like 14 years ago and can't imagine it's still relevant at this point.
no, I did not have to sumbit SAT scores, just my college transcript, the application, and two letters of recommendation. best of luck!!
Thanks. Were the letters from professors? I wonder if past employers would be good enough.
yes, my letters were from professors, but I just graduated from college this past May so it was easy for me. I believe on the website it says past employers are acceptable, but I'd double check to be sure.

adelphi has the lowest pass rate for the state boards. North shore refuses to hire adelphi RNs because they come out of school completely incompetent.
If you can get accepted to the associate degree schools, you will be the best nurse.
Seriously? That's something to consider. Have you heard anything about Molloy College? I applied to their DDP program as well, but don't know if I will get accepted. I applied to 2 Associates programs, but I ultimately want to be an NP, so wanted to at least have my BSN done so that I don't have to go back to school for that before going for NP.

I work for NYPH-Cornell and they hire Adelphi RN's, I know several people who graduated from Adelphi and passed the boards on there first try, they also r now working on there NP and r working fulltime. If North Shore refuses to hire them them that's there loss.
