can I ask where on Earth you got that information?? I find it hard to believe that North Shore refuses Adelphi RNs.

I botched the science section big time when I took the NET and it had no affect on anything at all (I too had been out of science for a few years). There is also a spelling/grammar section that isn't counted for your overall score. If you are still applying to Adelphi, they only look at the overall composite score of reading comp and math.. if you are taking the NET at Adelphi this Saturday they don't even have you complete the end sections on stress levels because they find it irrelevant (at least I encountered this when I took the NET in October at the Garden City campus)

I was in the same situation as you recently and here are my two cents.. I had a BS in sociology and decided to go to nursing school, but I didn't consider getting my ADN I was only interested in BSN. This was just my personal preference, I felt that if it was going to take the same amount of time I would just go for my BSN. I started school this semester at Adelphi (Garden City) and didn't have any prereqs done either. I am planning to graduate in August 2011. This semester I am taking A&P w/ lab, and three nursing classes. Obviously not clinical classes but 3 classes that are a part of the nursing program. I honestly don't know which is better, Pace or Adelphi. I was looking into Pace as well but I was interested in starting this semester and the NYC campus. I do know that at Adelphi there are quite a bit of clinical classes/rotations so I'm going to say that BSN students still get a comparable amount of exposure to clinicals as ADN students. I'm going to assume it depends on your school (or I could be wrong). Also, many students have externships in the summer. I hope this helps a bit, feel free to ask me any other questions!!

yes, my letters were from professors, but I just graduated from college this past May so it was easy for me. I believe on the website it says past employers are acceptable, but I'd double check to be sure.

no, I did not have to sumbit SAT scores, just my college transcript, the application, and two letters of recommendation. best of luck!!

Hi Maryann, I know you said you attend Adelphi as a second degree nursing student, and I have a few questions about the prereqs. If I remember correctly, you responded to one of my other posts saying it'll take you about three years to complete your BSN. Is this because it takes a full year to complete the prereqs? When I was applying, I spoke to someone in the nursing department and was under the assumption it would only take one semester for all prereqs to be completed (I haven't taken any). I have a meeting with the nursing department in early January and am a bit concerned this program is going to take me longer then I thought. Any input would be great. Thanks so much. Erica

yes, I was accepted without the prereqs. It says on the website that you can apply without them and still be accepted into the nursing program (about halfway down the page). Essentially, the first semester at NYU would be the prereqs and the following semester the actual nursing courses/clinicals would begin http://www.nyu.edu/nursing/academicprograms/bachelors/grads.html

I applied to NYU for Spring 09 as a second degree student and recently found out I was accepted to the program. I also was interested in the traditional program, but have recently decided to attend another university. I did not take any of the science prereqs and was still accepted, so I am going to assume they look more at your GPA from your first degree as well as your essays/personal statements/letters of rec. However, I'm sure every student is looked at differently... I had a GPA of a 3.4 As far as where NYU graduates go on to work, I can't answer that stuff sorry!! Hope I helped a bit.

Not trying to scare you, but if you don't receive word in a few days I would call them. I applied for Spring 09 and sent in my application in mid October and heard this past Saturday. Did you get the four confirmation emails?

Yes, I applied for Spring 09 as a second degree student. I found out on Saturday that I was accepted.

For Pace, the second degree program starts in NYC in the fall and the Pleasantville campus in the spring, make sure you take that into consideration. Since Pace's second degree program is a dual degree (meaning you can continue onto get your Master's after completing the BSN portion, you do NOT have to, you CAN graduate after the BSN portion) you need to take the GRE and do well on it. I took part in a few online discussion boards about the nursing program this summer and it seems Pace is a competitive school. NYU's application requires a few short personal statements and a long essay, but I am not too sure how significant the are. NYU is known overall to be a very competitive school so I am assuming the nursing program would be about the same. There are a lot of schools you can look at, do not be discouraged!!

I really appreciate your honesty. I received my acceptance letter from NYU today for the second degree program. As much as I would love to attend, there's a good chance I'll end up at Adelphi on Long Island. I live 10 minutes from Adelphi so obviously that commute would be much easier (and cheaper) then traveling to NYC everyday. In your opinion, do you think I'd be better off at Adelphi (which is much much cheaper then NYU)??? Any response is appreciated!! Thanks.

I've been accepted to both NYU and Adelphi as a second degree student, but am more inclined to attend Adelphi since I live on Long Island and the commute would be quick and easy. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not it makes a significant difference on my future as a nurse? Thanks so much.

Hi Maryann, I'm probably attending Adelphi next semester for nursing and am in the same boat as you. I have a degree (BS) and do not have any of the prereqs done yet. Any advice/info on the program?? I have a few options for next semester and am trying to learn more about them from other students. Any info is greatly appreciated!! Thanks.
