I'm sure that's absolutely true about NYU students. We hear that a lot. And I'm guessing that the experiences at most other schools in the city are much, much worse. I know a girl at Pace who says it's totally disorganized, and while some of the 2 year programs are fabulous, I know some are definitely not. My concern with NYU at this point is that they're letting in more and more students each semester without enough instructors to teach them or enough room for lectures and clinical sites. The fall incoming class will have 230 people. To me, that's insane, but I'm sure they'll figure out ways to make it work. And yes, plenty of people do the 2nd degree program in 2 years, that's what I would do. 15 months is very intense.

Hi,

I just decided I am going to apply to the accelerated nursing program in Jan. 2009. I was wondering if the pre-reqs needed for liberal arts are specific courses or if they are just any LA classes.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the pre-reqs are all specific courses. I know you have to take Nutrition, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Chemistry, but I'm not sure of the full list. An advisor at the school could fill you in better.

Can anyone shed any insight on the RN to BSN program at NYU? I went to their open house in Jan but it was more tailored to people pursing their second BS. :uhoh3: Greatly appreciate any information. Thanks

I'm not really familiar with that program, although I know NYU has it, but I think there are different classes than the other students take. If you go to http://www.nyu.edu/nursing, there should be information there under Academic Programs.

Just want to add my input as well.

Please keep in mind that NYU is VERY VERY expensive. Assuming you don't qualify or apply to any outside scholarhips, you will have a lot of debt when graduating from school. NYU gives a very minimal grant to nursing students...and that's even if you qualify. But, it doesn't make a dent in the tuition bill. I'm currently in the 15 month accelerated program. Although I'm happy that I'm getting my degree quickly, I have many frustrations and disappointments with the program. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't go. In the end, you are paying for a name, not a quality education. They take on way more students than they can accomodate.

Good Luck with everything

Has anyone received a decision letter yet for the 15 month accelerated nursing program at nyu?

I have an ADN from Los Angeles and am considering applying:typing...is it ridiculously hard to get in?

I hate to break the reputation to you all who thinks NYU nursing is great. It's NOT. You are just paying for the name. You are not getting a better education. I have precepted a lot of NYU students and new graduates over the years and I can tell you they are no different than any other students or graduates from other nursing schools. My co-owrkers are NYU clinical instructors and they complain they have too many students to teach or supervise the clinical sessions. So that means, most students don't have one to one hands on experience with their instructor. They come to the clinical unprepared, don't know how to take the blood pressure with manual cuff, or just standing in the hallway bec they don't know what to do.

What I find really disturbing is that some of the students, not just NYU students...think that they are going to be BSN RNs so they don't have to wipe butts or do am care.

They are shocked that RNs still have to clean up poop. Hello!!!

They are either in nursing bec of the money or job security. They don't care about nursing or the people. I find that a lot in second career students.

It's about 65K for 15 month accerlerated program at NYU. It's just tuition and does not include books, fees, living expenses. A lof of NYU graduates come out with approximately 80K in debt. But the nursing experience you got at NYU is the same as someone who graduated from public schools CUNY or SUNY with 5K SL. Where I work, we hire new grads from all over the US as long as you have a BSN.

Trust me, you will be paying for that tuition until you're in retirement.

By the way, I went to NYU bec of it was free.

New to this site, not sure if this is the place to ask this question, but here goes... I just moved to NYC and am finishing up my pre requisites, am interested in getting a BSN, looking for any feedback on BSN programs in NYC (or Brooklyn) with the best reputation. Any feedback would be a great help! Thanks very much!

Hello,

I graduated from NYU back in May 07' and I think school's reputation is not that important. Speaking from my experience, just get yourself accepted into any nursing program, keep up your GPA (over 3.0/4.0), and most importantly do any externship during your nursing education b/c when you graduated, hospitals will mostly likely hire new grad with any outside clinical experience. A lot of my classmates did externship during nursing school and was offered the job after the externship ended.

Good luck!

Thanks! Another question, I just moved from Philadelphia where there were several university hospitals that offered BSN programs (Jeffereson, Univ. of Pennsylvania, Temple U...) besides NYU, do you know of any hospital/universities in NYC with similar programs. Since I just moved here, I don't really know what's out there.

Thanks again,
