Hi everyone,

I am a soon to be new grad and I recently applied to NYU. Most people told me that NYU only hires internally or only hires students from NYU. I was just wondering how true this is? How many of you got hired externally and didn't go to NYU? I just want to know my chances. Thanks :)

I got hired and I never went to NYU. I do think they hire mainly NYU grads though but that's just from what I've seen. You don't have to be a NYU grad to get hired :) Just really be consistent with HR because I do think that if you're not you'll lose a spot.

Thanks so much for replying :) were you hired as a new graduate nurse? Also what floor? Sorry for so many questions

I applied to the new grad residency as well as their ER fellowship and I am hoping to get a spot in their ER. I have pretty good experience for a new grad and a good gpa so I hope I have a chance. How soon did you start following up with HR?

Yes! I was. I'm on a cardiac floor.

Yeah! I saw both of those. If you have good experience that should help you with your intverview with a nurse manager rather than HR. Cause if you have experience for that unit they'll probably hire you! HR is much easier to please in my opinion but the problem is getting a spot.

As soon as they email you stay in touch with them'

Oh that's so awesome!!! Can you share some of your credentials or something you felt as though made you stand out? Also how long after applying did you hear back from someone?

I work on an ambulance so I'm really hoping that helps me stand out for specifically for the ER fellowship

My internship on a CVICU Unit, preceptorship on a CV stepdown unit, and my job on a med-surg unit! I think this helped me. I have a 3.7 GPA (not sure if nurse managers care about this but you never know).

That may help you! EMT or other types of experiance will help you if it's ER!

I have a 3.7 too! That sounds like perfect experience for your job though!

How long did it take for you to hear back after you applied?

Would any NYU nurses be willing to share their biweekly pay check? I'm making a budget planning sheet and comparing a couple employment opportunities and also trying to figure out what kind of rent I would be able to afford if I end up getting NYU
