Hi everybody,

I just got my boat rocked this morning when I received my acceptance letter to NYU's spring 2011 program. That is so soon! I live in San Francisco and I can't imagine how different life will be in a few short months if I go there.

I'm hoping I can get some advice from people who have gone through the program before, or anyone who has researched it. My questions are below:

1. I have heard that the program is a little disorganized because it is so new. Did you feel well prepared and guided. How was the workload? Challenging but relevant, I hope.

2.Is it possible to work on the weekends? I also have a boyfriend that I love mucho, but will be leaving in San Francisco. In terms of schedule and workload, will I be able to visit him on the weekends? Is there any vacation time to spend with him?

3. I'm assuming that cost of living is outrageous in NY. Where are the best places to live and how do you find them? Is craigslist the usual route?

4. Overall impressions of the school, the staff, and living in NY would be greatly appreciated!! I know it will be challenging but exactly how stressful is it? Do you feel supported?

I have to give a deposit in 2 weeks!! I'm freaking out because I won't have heard from the other schools I have applied to yet. It would be way to risky to turn down NYU hoping I get into a school here in SF, Samuel Merritt. Oh life!

I just got accepted to the Spring 2011 program too. Can't believe I'll be living in NY in less than two months! Thanks, Beeny for your info. It was helpful...now to start the apartment search! Should be interesting seeing as I'm living in Thailand until the end of December, so I guess all my contacts have to be made by email.

I was wondering if any of you would be interested in joining a facebook group for those of us starting the program in january? I think that could be a good way for us to share info on apartments, the program, etc.

ljt813 - I lived in Thailand for the first half of 2006! What are you doing there? I spent most of my time in Koh Samui (in the gulf) but went all over for the last few months. When do you get back?

I know I would join a Facebook group, do you know how to start one? I'm sure if you posted the info on here it would spread pretty quickly. I joined the NY Nursing group, you could link the two. It would probably really help with housing, it seems a lot of people are in the same boat!

I've been living with family in Bangkok since September. I came here to teach English while I wait to get into nursing school. I thought I would be here at least a year, but NYU changed that plan pretty quickly!

I can make the facebook group for us, but it requires me to have at least one person to invite before I create the group. I don't have any friends in the program though! If you add me as a friend I'll be able to get the group started. My name is Laura Temple...you should be able to find me if you search with my location as Bangkok, Thailand.

Hi everybody!

Any word on the facebook page? I would love an invite. I searched for you Laura, but no luck. I'm moving from California too. I know of an apart opening up in dec which is only 950 and has two bedrooms, it's in jersey though. The commute is supposed to only be about ten minutes by train but I really know nothing about jersey?

I'm from sf too! Search for me on fb if you want to meet up for a coffee or a drink:) I did send in the deposit, waiting to hear from other schools as well. Trouble is nyu starts so much sooner than the others that I might just have to go with that rather than risk waiting for the others.

Would be cool to meet up with you if you're free!

Hi everybody, I wasn't able to find the group on Facebook so I set one up under "NYU ABSN Spring 2011"

If there is already a group I'm happy to delete the one I made so it doesn't get confusing, but I wasn't able to find it when I did a search.

Hope to you on there so we can get things figured out, and get connected a little easier!

Hey guys!!

Last night I e-mailed admissions to ask if any decision had been made on my application. This morning I got a response that I have been admitted to the program!!! My packet should be going out in the mail today or tomorrow. I am so excited and relieved. Can't wait to meet you guys in January!! And good luck to those still waiting for a response. I know how terrible the wait can be, but it is SO worth it in the end!!
