I am looking into applying for the NYU ABSN Fall 2016 program. I was wondering if anyone had any helpful tips and thoughts on what I should know when applying for the program.
Ankar22...don't worry! I got the email about the information session/admitted students event but it clearly states that there will be more...one in May and another in June which shows that it will be available for those who are accepted at a later date. I hope this helps and makes you feel better! Think positive!!!!
Hi! I called NYU today to determine when I would hear back about my financial aid award as they received my FAFSA forms last Friday, 4/8. I was told it takes "a week or so" to process and that because I had already submitted my deposit on 4/9, that would speed up the process for me. They begin determining awards for those who submit their deposit much sooner. Apparently it can be timely as they have to matriculate my previous credits from undergrad and apply them to the ABSN program credits, which is a meticulous process for them. I'm hoping my award posts this Friday, but I have a feeling it won't post until next Monday or Tuesday.
I was also told I would hear from my assigned advisor with regards to "next steps" and enrolling for classes, the last week of April/first week of May at the latest. I'm currently working on fulfilling health clearance requirements and anxiously awaiting that financial aid package.
If anyone knows what day the second "newly admitted student" day is in May, I'd love to know! Apartment hunting in Manhattan is insane, btw... tiny places that are extremely expensive; I expected that for NYC though. I'm considering living in Long Island City, but I'm not sure it's feasible to commute every day with our long, early days ahead and late nights. It's a trade off for sure. Any advice from anyone living in/near the city? Thanks!
bmd1992...the email I received doesn't have the exact dates. It just says it will be held in May and June....I actually live in the city and it is EXPENSIVE! I heard its best to try to meet other students and rent an apartment together so that the monthly costs will be less on each of you! But it's very tough! Long Island city is definitely not the worse commute! It is do-able. -just have to plan out your timing around that especially for classes and early morning clinicals.
Long Island city is great, but it's far... And may not be convenient when you have extremely early clinicals. I would suggest living in/around Chinatown for a "reasonable" price. Stuy town is also modest/quiet. Honestly, anywhere along the east side of Manhattan will give you a good and smooth commute to campus (and it'll likely be near any hospitals we do clinicals at!)
hope this helps!
@bmd1992 thanks for the info. As far as the apartment I wouldn't suggest Manhattan, perhaps BK. my gf just found a nice place in BK that she and her other friends will be sharing. Although BK is also on the expensive side, still it is much cheaper than the city. And getting to the city is a breeze, I'm also commuting from there. Many trains reach NYU. Unfortunately I don't know much about housing as of now but I'll be on the look out. Good luck!
Hey guy! I received my financial aid award letter via email. Confusing I have questions..
Mine is just a whole bunch of loans: subsidized, unsubsidized and federal plus loan.
I noticed that they charged me for 12 credits. The curriculum shows that we're supposed to be charged for 16credits.

No Ankar22, my understanding is that people may be accepted from now to June. And people that are accepted second or third round can also attend an information session!
Plz think positive!! Not everyone that is selected will attend. They could get accepted somewhere else or financial reasons. Stay positive! I know it's hard but maybe try staying off the forum or keep yourself busy. Til you see the admitted email.
I know it's hard getting your mind off!
