A hospital that I am working with is currently with NYSNA but the nursing staff is considering a change to 1199. I am interested in a comparison between the two and would like to hear what other nurses on the New York area think about each of the unions... WHACHUTINK?

I've only ever dealt with NYSNA. I have no problem with it. Although our 1199 counterparts here do get retirement healthcare, (NYSNO doesn't offer it) which would be a major selling point as I approached retirement.

Post retirement healthcare is a major issue and a big plus for 1199. I am retired and already have benefits through my previous employer. For my colleague nurses this is a huge consideration.
My position is that I see NYSNA as a professional organization built around education (I don't agree with some of their positions). 1199 is a union with a large membership. Because of size and focus, they can lobby, they can negotiate and they can offer benefits. My concern is that as 1199 covers broad spectrum of hospital employees. Will some of the needs of nurses be sacrificed?
Is there anyone out there with 1199 experience?

1199 No Doubt. Medical/dental/ophth/tuition/no Extra Costs.
Child Care Fund / Scholarships For Our Children/ Pension/ Home Buying Program/ C.e. No Cost To 1199 Members, And More..........
Nysna Members Complain About All The Things They Have To Pay For But Each Union Is Different.

1199 is a better union than nysna, they have so much to offer, but unfortunately where i'm working only LPN/CNA.... are entitle to 1199 and RN are entitle to NYSNA, not complaining because i enjoy ihaving 1199 while working as a lpn, but now i'm a recent RN graduate and will not have 1199 anymore:madface:
