Congratulations to you, average wait time is 8 months. And that is dependent on how quickly your licensing board and nursing program submit the needed material once it is asked for by CGFNS.
Please be aware that there are not any visas available at this time, not sure what type of visa that you are currently on and if it permits you to work.
Hi Suzanne
I am here on spousal green card, here in NY, NY since 7 years...have three kids age 5-2 !!, and am now returning to working/ professional life!!!.
It is great that you have the green card, otherwise you would not be permitted to work at this time.

Hi i just want to ask how did you apply at cgfns for the cvs? What are the documentations that they were asking from the requirements? And is it really ok to pass the application in NY even if the documents from cgfns is not yet done? I hope you could help me with this. Im really confuse on how will i start. Thanks.
And what did you also do with the child abuse/infection control cert. did you enrol it online? Im here in the philippines and when i read the ny bon site i think doing it online is the easiest way? Am i right?

CGFNS has a special arrangement with NY and they do all the legwork all that is required from applicant is complete and sign form. NY will not look at your file until they receive from CGFNS. CVS only needs to be done if you intend on working in NY and very hard to find hospitals willing to petition especially at the moment.
ah i see, so all that i have to do is apply in cgfns for my documents like the secondary school, academic records, etc. to be evaluated and pay. And they will be the one to contact my school etc. Yes, thats actually the reason why I already decided to initially apply in NY when i read the blogs. I was actually planning before to take my initial license in VT then endorse to NY but since there is retro i think it'll be just ok to wait. Do you think i just did the right thing? Im really confuse if its better this way.
Even if you took licensure in another state and plan to work in NY you would still have to complete CVS so will save money going straight to NY if that is your final destination
Please be aware that there is about an eight month processing time on average before you will get approval to sit for the NCLEX exam thru NY. There is no way to speed things up.
And add into that the fact that we have not seen any hospital petitioning from there in sometime, and it is only going to get worse because of the retrogression. You are looking at about five years to even have a chance at a green card, it is no longer going to be an instant thing if you pass the NCLEX exam and have an employer. There are many more applicants than visas now.

Yes, i understand that. But is there a reciprocity of VT license to NY? I have a relative in NY thats why i want to work there but it is just not that easy to wait long for the cvs. So we decided to take my initial license in VT but i still have to make sure that i can endorse the VT license to NY. Does NY allow that? Thank you so much Suzanne. =)
There is no such thing as reciprocity between licenses in the US, only the actual NCLEX exam has reciprocity; that means that the results of it are valid in all 50 states plus the US territories. You must apply to each state that you wish a license in and get approved by them, which means that you need to meet their individual requirements.
NY will not issue a license to you whether by endorsement or initial licensure if you have not gone thru the CVS processing. And it does not matter where your relatives are, they are not the ones that will attempt to petition you for a visa.
You have to wait, and will be waiting, even if you get the license for VT. You still need to complete the CVS in order to get licensed in NY. But a more important is that there are no visas and we do not expect any to significantly open up for those from your country for years. To make it easier to understand, there are currently more than 632,000 students enrolled in nursing school in your country, and there are fewer than 10,000 green cards issued per year for the US under the EB-3 category which you would be under, and that includes those from other professions as well as dependents such as spouses and children. So the number is actually relatively small now that can come from the Philippines to the US in terms of the number that wish to come.
You are looking at five years plus at this time with only a chance to get to the US, having passed the NCLEX exam and having an employer that will petition you are no longer guaranteeing that you will actually be granted a visa.
Hope that this makes it easier for you to understand. But without a visa that will permit you to work in the US, it does not matter where you hold a license from. You cannot work without permission from the US federal govt, no matter what anyone else may tell you.
