NYC starting pay for hospitals for new grads

Published

Hello! I’m wondering if people wouldn’t mind contributing to how much they’re getting paid as a new grad RN in NYC hospitals. Where you work at, base pay and any night differential if you’re working nights. Thank you.

Hi, I trained in Ireland, have lots of hospital experience, passed NCLEX, have PALS, ACLS and as registered RN in NY. However, Im finding it impossible to get into a hospital in NYC, Recruiters are telling me that I need to do homecare as I won't get into a hospital without experience as in a US hospital. Any advise. I really want to keep my skills and work as RN in acute setting

Hello! I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through all this even with tons of experience. I don’t have any particular advice but just keep trying to apply or maybe reach out to people you know that can help you get a way in. It’s definitely hard and might take a while but something will come up eventually! Don’t lose hope

Hi all, Im a new grad and was recently offered a RN position at a NYC hospital. Salary is usually visible for city hospital jobs but there is an additional 5k night differential and 1.8k for having a BSN. So if the stated salary is 85k then actual yearly income is closer to 91k/ year. Hope this is useful for anyone considering city employment. Good luck on the job hunt.

Specializes in Pediatrics/PICU.

Sometimes we have to stop focusing too much on money. Yes we need good paying jobs, but sometimes the stress just isn't worth it. In my opinion NYC pays well across the board, however the lack of nursing support and unsafe conditions makes you want to run especially now. Currently I make over $104,000 for Pediatric unit but the tax is a killer plus the stress. Yes we are unionized but that in my opinion is a total waste of money. I just don't see the benefits of the union, honestly. Looking to move to Fl at the end of the year, even though the pay is less. At least I won't be paying State taxes. Tired of the cribe in the big apple.

Was offered a position at NYU for about 93k base pay recently and they stated that new grads would also be bumped up in September to 104k base pay. Mount Sinai position mentioned it was around 100k base pay but I'm not sure if it's specifically for the specialty I interviewed for

Hope that helps!

Hi, was this at the NYC location or Brooklyn? Also do you know if they pay the same regardless of location or is it different per location? Thank you!

Its different per location Montefiore in bx offers night diffeRential of 3000 and pay is in the mid 90’s but this was 5yrs ago pay Im sure should be in 100gs starting now…I was trying to research it.
Online it at incredible health.com (since I can’t figure out how to upload the picture yet) says ny nurses make about 93G’s which is 12% higher than national average.

Did you end up making that move? Just curious. My friend is personally miserable in FL LOL
