Nybon Nursing School Under Investigation

I finished my LPN-RN program from Carleen Health Institute. I took the NCLEX under New York state board and passed the exam. I'd been waiting on the license a couple of weeks and decided to call NYbon, was told the school is under review - hence they would not be issuing any licenses till the review is done. They also wouldn't give a time frame. Does anyone have any idea how long these reviews usually take or what could be done in situations like this?

However, just as a reminder. While you may be able to retake the NCLEX in Florida - NY may still not endorse you for a license in NYS. They evaluate all out-of-state programs for equivalency (I am going through this process now from a California community college program with a 97% pass rate). So - while you would be able to work in FL - NY would still be problematic. And since the story has now spread across the U.S., most other BONs will have their questions too....

I'm thinking they haven't suspended them yet because NY has their hands filled with all this mess going on. If they suspend all these nurses I believe they have the right to a fair hearing within 30 days.

I wanted to send you a private message but I don't know how. Do you know how to send private messages on this forum?

I sent you a private message you can respond to that.

Reading some of the comments, I see that others have said the tuition needs to be reimbursed while others said the school may file bankruptcy.  Agree.  However, reimbursement of tuition is a drop in the bucket in my opinion.  I went to school long before schools were charging exorbitant tuitions but still, when I look back on the extremely long 4 years I put in, the blood, sweat, and tears, no social life, not being able to afford much of anything but chicken noodle soup (thank goodness for neighbors who fed me!)...and not to mention I could only work a few hours a week (minimum wage) during those days...well, tuition reimbursement doesn't mean much.  I suspect it's the same for many.

For those that legitimately went to school, studied, etc., and didn't "purchase" a degree, I think they need much more than that type of reimbursement.  I rarely recommend lawsuits, but in this case, I might.  Pain and suffering. Also, checking pass rates, accreditation, etc., is always an excellent point and should be done but I suspect most young people don't know that.  I would never blink at a strip-mall school but who knows what I would have done years back in my eagerness to get accepted into a program?  Maybe.

Is there any update on what's happen with the schools for FL BON? Is FL BON going to take away the licenses? I am almost done with my BSN degree. But I'm seeing my ADN is always going to give me problems. At this point I'll just use my bachelors and work and other job. Going through nursing school again is something I don't want to live through ?

Some people are getting contacted by the Fl BON to hand in their license and others aren't. It doesn't matter if you got a BSN your original school that allowed you to sit for your NCLEX is the issue. Currently NY is allowing people to go back to school that they approve of and start over if you want to be licensed in NY BON.  Essentially there's no update I don't even know if FL BON is allowing people to go back to school and start over too. I don't know the outcome of people who got their licenses annulled/revoked with "fraud" discipline what's the course of action do they get to start over or they can't ever be licensed again as a nurse?

If people actually committed criminal fraud - and it seems in some cases that is what happened (how could you think that handing over $17,000 and not attending classes was a legit way of becoming nurse???) - then they will find getting a nursing license a hard row. Fraud is one of the things absolutely looked at negatively by every Board of Nursing. If it is prosecuted criminally and as a felony, it will be reported to the FBI. Since most healthcare agencies who accept Medicare must do an FBI background check before they hire someone - most healthcare agencies won't touch them. And that is even if they manage to talk the Board into giving them a license in the first place. One of the things I read recently here really "stuck". Once a license is lost, it can be straightforward to get it back. (I don't think it's probably "easy" - but at least it is straightforward apparently and people do get licenses restored.) BUT - with a record they won't be able to find work easily.

America is not a land that believes in restorative justice. BONs believe in their version of justice and have the power to impose it with little recourse for the nurse affected.

@mhlpn22 Hello, I hope all is well. Did you ever get your license from NYBON? How long did it take?

@Paul Hosty Hello! I hope all is well. I can't send you a private message...Can you try to send me one? I would love to ask you a few questions please. Thank you in advance.

Just to let u know. NYBON has not taken away anyone's license just who  volunteer to give it up, and that's very few. NYBON will tell u they did because they don't want the public to know. All these nurses are actively working in ny withe no negative action on there license. But with these nurse they cabt further there education thats the only negative so they have to go back to school which some are doing. But NYBON isn't all that fare like some would think letting people that brought a license keep it and continue working

Any word on the schools investigated but not on the banned list? I heard one of them was cleared by FBI but they voluntarily closing their program after this year. NYS had approved my exam and I've been on hold ever since with this investigation. I wish they just let us prove we went to school legitimately. Inflation in this city is craziness and I just want to work.

I want to thank you for your messages on here. I don't know what motivates you to be generous with what you know but I have been reading for months and I am grateful for you.
