Nybon Nursing School Under Investigation

I finished my LPN-RN program from Carleen Health Institute. I took the NCLEX under New York state board and passed the exam. I'd been waiting on the license a couple of weeks and decided to call NYbon, was told the school is under review - hence they would not be issuing any licenses till the review is done. They also wouldn't give a time frame. Does anyone have any idea how long these reviews usually take or what could be done in situations like this?

Yes we will not see the draft of this upcoming meeting until the next board meeting after this one. If you look at all previous meetings, this is how they do things. Thank you for the update @NRSKarenRN.

the link below shows a list of open Florida schools and their present-day status( what NYS is using)  if your school is not listed below it maybe closed and that is why it is on hold by NYS  to determine reason why it is closed and the status when they closed

Where is this list? My school is not on this list and I have been waiting for 4+ months for my nursing license by endorsement... I went to Herzing which is fully accredited. I am so lost OMG

All schools from Florida will be under scrutiny.  One of Herzings campuses are approved. Did you go to that one? Also if you finished when the program was accredited, that won't matter. NYS is looking at the school's current status which isn't fair in my opinion but that is how they are doing it. You need to call NYBON because they are the only ones that can clarify for you. That department is only available Tuesdays and Thursdays. 518-474-3817 ext. 280.

Wait what do you mean "it won't matter"? Does it not matter that it is accredited? And which of the one campus of herzings campus is approved? Sorry, I am just lost. I went to school in Louisiana, not the one in Florida. The program was accredited back in 2022 and I finished in 2023, so I graduated when it was accredited. I am definitely calling them tomorrow.

SO new york BON  has an in house list that the Nursing processing unit it using so it won't be available to the general public

as far as the Accreditation status yes we look at only present day status of the school.  the reason for that, is that when a school is going through the Accredidation renewal process( audit), documents  test scores, and what ever else they look at are from years prior so if thing are off then that how a college can loose an accredidation

So if my school is fully accredited since 2022, and I graduated in 2023, then I should be good to go correct? Just making sure I fully understand because I would be devastated if I went to a fully accredited school and NYBON denies me 😞

So no .when we say present day we mean at the time frame we are processing your application. for example if we were to look at your schools accreditation status today 4/24/24 and the school is not listed as accredited it will be put on hold... But that can be just one of the reasons NYS BON has the school on hold

I Don't understand,  How NY still allow nurses to keep there license and work knowing that most didn't go to school. But are holding others back. It dosent add up. It's setting a bad example.  U didn't go to school u should not hold a license to practice.

Gotcha. My school is still accredited. I went to Herzing University in Louisiana not the one in flordia. Someone said there is only one herzing university that is approved by NYSBON and I really hope it is my school. I have been waiting 4 months and nysbon hasn't given me any update on my application.

Call them tomorrow morning. That's the only way you will get a definitive answer.
