Greetings everyone... I have not seen any threads on this site "subject": NWFSC Nursing Program. So I thought I would start one here. Yes, I am officially going to try to be admitted to the ASN Program Fall 2011. If you are a teacher, instructor, current student, graduate or a hopeful like me, I want to hear from you! The admission requirements seem to be pretty straight forward and uncomplicated. Just too good to be true...Seems like just about anyone who applies and has the required points needed for admission gets admitted. Do they not have too many applicants each year, since the area is heavily populated by military families, and no one stays around long enough to graduate? I also looked at nursing class pictures and classes seems to be small. Anyone know how many students they admit each school year? Thanks in advance for your answers! And sorry in advance too, as I will have many questions!

Hello Silika! I'm currently in the NWFSC ASN program and I think I can answer a few of your questions. They have changed the application process slightly since I was admitted, but for the most part, if you have 100 points, you should get in. I know there were a few (maybe 10 or so..not sure) who were on the waiting list, but most of them got in due to people moving or going to a different program. I was told a long time ago that more than 300 people apply, but they also apply to other programs and most don't have the 100points. Often people will apply and try to get in, but end up going to another school (PJC) because NWFS only admits in the fall and PJC admits several times a year. The class pictures are small because the program is difficult and honestly, most do not make it. The class that is graduating next week started out with 54 students (this is how many they admit) and now they are down to one classroom. Sad, but true. People start to "disappear" after the first Skill check in the first semester. If you get in, just focus on what you need to do to pass and try not the let what's going on around you get you flustered. HTH!

Hi Silika - I'm currently taking my pre-reqs to get into the '11 nursing program at NWFSC. I appreciate all the information shared here ... and it's what I've heard, too. Over 300 applicants, 50 some spots and the drop out rate is astounding. I'm working hard to have my 100 points and, so far, am on target but that isn't to say I still worry about the day when decisions about acceptance are made. I've had a few sit downs with the staff and they emphasize keeping an eye on the website because, due to the demand, their entrance requirements are evolving and getting more stringent (hence more competitive). I have heard it is the most reputable program in the entire area, though, and am REALLY excited for the journey! I've taken A & P 1, now in Human Growth and Development this summer, A & P 2 in Fall, Microbiology in Spring '11 and Nutrition in summer '11 - and HOPEFULLY the core nursing program in Fall '11 :)

Hi there! I saw your post and yesterday I received my letter from the nursing program at NWFSC. I had 100 points and I was placed on the waiting list. I am number 4 on the waiting list and there are 23 others on the list. The letter comes by certified mail and you have to sign for it. I did get some good news though. They are starting another nursing program in Jan 2011 (in 6 more months) and I was accepted into that if I don't get into the one in August. I am pretty sure that at least 4 out of the 54 who were accepted is going to decline the invitation into the fall program due to moving out of the area or going into another program. I guess this is the first time they are going to admit two times a year. I will call the school on Monday when they open to see how everything works and repost. Thanks and good luck!
Thanks so much for the info!! And YES - very exciting news about adding another program in Jan '11 but I sure wish they post that information like ... NOW! :) Wooow. You had 100 points and were still put on a wait list? So basically all applicants who got accepted had 100 points? And do they just pick via a lottery then? Thanks for the information!

Well, I was contacted as a transfer student from PJC and will take the necessary tests to hopefully start in Jan 2011. I only had one term left, but I am having to go for 2 terms. I too would like to know about the program. Every nursing program is hard, so there are always people that don't make it. It has GOT to be better than PJC though. There was a lot of contraversy about the program (which is why PJC is NOT accredited yet) and there was a whole class that failed by just a couple of points. It was stupid, but so many of us are having to find somewhere else to go, or just choose a new profession. Personally, if I make it into NWFSC I will be so excited! I know that it will be hard, especially with the almost 2 hour drive there everyday. But I am willing to make that sacrifice if that means that I will one day be an RN. I don't know how they choose the ones on the waiting list... at PJC they just go down the list til the class is full. Maybe that's the way NWFSC does it. Idk. Good luck to all! Maybe we will see each other around campus soon!
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I got a call today from the nursing program that I am off the waiting list and I did get in!!! There was over 100 applicants that had 100 points and only 54 were selected. The way they did it was put everybody's name in a "hat" and pulled names. I was number 4 on the wait list for this fall and I was accepted into the spring 2011 class. They made that class of 24 people because the amount of people with 100 points was so high, so I am guessing that not everybody with 100 points got in. I know that every year they change the point value because last year your gpa had to be 3.5 from the past 5 years and this year it was only for the past 12 credit hours. I will post any more info that I get....good luck!
Oh wow... congrats on getting in! I haven't heard anything yet... as I said before, I still have to test into the program. Are you starting at the beginning of the program or are you transferring in?
I just talked to the director of the program and she said that they have changed some things around, but for the ones coming straight in (no transfers), it's based on the point system and then the hat draw. (as stated above.) But, in my case, as a transfer, I have to test, it has to be scored (I will know that day whether or not I passed), then I have to wait. I have to wait until finals are over to see if there will be any space in the class for me.
There are so many "what ifs" that are just coursing through my mind right now. I found out that I cannot challenge the LPN board exam after the 3rd term (that is a director thing, not a board thing), so now I am at the mercy of the college. I just hope that there is space for me in January. So much is riding on this. It's almost overwhelming!

Hi!
I am trying to get in too. I am finishing my prereqs in December and have GPA 4.00. So I have HESI left. I took HESI in another college but there was no anatomy part so it was easier. Hope to do well on A2 too. Good luck!

I know this is an old thread but I am new to this website and am trying to get into the NWFSC fall 2011 nursing program. They should be sending out acceptance (or rejection) letters this next month and I'm so excited I'm about to burst! Someone please talk to me about this!

Katie, acceptance letters should be arriving any day if you haven't already received one! Mine arrived by certified mail, so you must be home to sign for it, or get it from the post office! I'm very excited and look forward to seeing who will be in the 2011 class!
TO ALL, just curious how everyone else did that applied for the 2011 Fall program...Good luck to all...Look forward to meeting some of you soon!
