  1. Hello Silika! I'm currently in the NWFSC ASN program and I think I can answer a few of your questions. They have changed the application process slightly since I was admitted, but for the most part, if you have 100 points, you should get in. I know there were a few (maybe 10 or so..not sure) who were on the waiting list, but most of them got in due to people moving or going to a different program. I was told a long time ago that more than 300 people apply, but they also apply to other programs and most don't have the 100points. Often people will apply and try to get in, but end up going to another school (PJC) because NWFS only admits in the fall and PJC admits several times a year. The class pictures are small because the program is difficult and honestly, most do not make it. The class that is graduating next week started out with 54 students (this is how many they admit) and now they are down to one classroom. Sad, but true. People start to "disappear" after the first Skill check in the first semester. If you get in, just focus on what you need to do to pass and try not the let what's going on around you get you flustered. HTH!
  2. Sounds like you're on the right track. I know they slightly changed the points system so I'm not sure, but if you can take Micro in the summer with ********* it is WAY better than with *****. I know firsthand because she taught us for two weeks while ********* was on vacation. OMG. I had to take A/P 1 and 2 at the same time last Spring to meet all the requirments for this fall. I thought THAT was a lot of studying...HA. We had our first test on 17 chapters. Ridiculous. I think for the most part people go to Ft walton beach medical center and Sacred Heart in Destin. There are several nursing homes to choose from, and we did not get to choose where we went. I think they try to place you in a clinical group that is convienent to where you live, but not always possible. I live in Florosa (Mary Esther) past Hurlburt and I got a nursing home right next to FWB medical center, but a guy that lives thirty seconds away from me got a nursing home in Bluewater Bay! Ugh.
  3. I just started the NWFSC RN program this fall. I know a girl who is in the PJC program and from what I heard NWF is better. The programs are set up differently and if you live in Destin it would be a really long drive. Not all clinicals are at the hospital and in our program there is no guarantee of your pick (if you even get to pick). If you meet all the requirements and get your 100 points, you should get in. I have noticed that its really hard to find people who go to NWFSC on this website.
  4. I just finished taking A/P 1 and 2. I don't think you need to buy or read any books before class; all instructors test on different material. I took all the notes (didn't really pay attention to what the instructor was saying b/c he would go way too fast), went home and typed them out. Pay attention to what they say will be on the test (if a review is given) and just study what you have for notes. There is a LOT of memorization. I recommend studying at least an hour a day per class, and when it gets time for the test, study as much as you can. I would study for an hour, then take a ten minute break and do that as long as I could stand it. I don't think there is any trick or way to get around all the studying and memorization. Just stay focused and you will do well. I got an A in both classes.
  5. Yeah, I noticed early on that whatever we are studying in A/P 2 we are starting to learn a little about in A/P 1. I found that I would get the classes mixed up sometimes when studying because I knew more information than needed for A/P 1.
  6. Yep, A/P 1 is not a pre-req for A/P 2. Everyone I talked to (my uncle, he's a nurse, my A/P teachers and the counselor) all recommended that I did not take them at the same time. I am glad I didn't listen (didn't really have a choice), at the same time, I'm with them, I would not recommend taking them together if you don't have to, or if you don't have to get a high grade. It's a LOT of work, and I'm glad it's almost over! Is she the lady with the poofy dark hair? I think she teaches the next classroom over when I am in A/P 2. If it's the same lady, she is always coming into our classroom.
  7. Yay! That makes me feel a lot better. I am taking A/P 1 with Hillis and A/P II with Wilderman. Are you taking A/P right now?
  8. I am taking A/P 1 and 2 this semester (have A's in both) and if I get at least an A and a B, then I will have 100 points. How many do you have? Is this your first time applying?
  9. 3,000?! Whoa, I had no idea. When I talked to the counselor back in December she said so far 300 had applied already. I figured that was an average of about 100 per month up till April. Good luck to both of us!
  10. Anyone applying to NWFS? I haven't seen any threads about people attending this school. Just wondering if I'm the only one out there...
  11. Yay, congrats to you too! It feels pretty good, doesn't it?
  12. I am taking A/P I and II at the same time and we just got our midterm grades. I have a 95 average in both classes and I'm super excited!!! If I keep up the pace, I will get all my points for entry into the nursing program and have a REALLY good shot at getting in :) When I told people I was going to take both the courses at the same time (not by choice), all I got was "it's going to be really hard, I don't recommend it." One of my instructors even said "It's not IMPOSSIBLE, but other student's who have done it, do not recommend it, and would not do it again." So, I guess I am just giving myself a little pat on the back here, because it's been a lot of work and nobody around me seems to be as excited as I am at my accomplishment thus far. Thanks for listening
  13. Thanks :) Good luck to you too! Jessica
  14. There are a few courses that have to be completed before being accepted into the program. The only ones I have left are A/P 1/2. I normally wouldn't have chosen to take them at once, but the decision to apply for next term was made very quickly. Since there are kids/daycare and money involved, I have to be accepted this time, or I will not be able to try again till my kids are in school (they are 3 and 1). The selection is based off a points system. If everyone has 100 points, then they will do a lottery. If I get at least a B in both of these courses, I will have 100 points. The school has not had to do the lottery with the 100 point applicants as of yet, so my chances of being accepted are high.
  15. I am not working, but I do have two kids. My husband works twelve hour shifts (3 days on two days off sorta schedule), so I can't count on him to always be there. These are the only classes I will be taking this spring semester. I have to take them at the same time so I finish all the required classes to apply to the nursing program. I mainly worry that there will be information learned in A/P I that is needed in A/P II. I suppose I shouldn't worry too much because if that were the case, then they would make A/P I a prereq for A/P II and not allow me to take them at the same time.
