NVCC Fall '08 Stats

Published

I was wondering if you guys could give me your stats (GPA/HESI) that got you into the program, if you don't mind sharing. My NAS 161 classmates and I were talking about our chances of getting in after this first test. I always want to pick someone's brain about the program, but I don't want to bother anyone during the lunch breaks or while studying at the tables.

Also does anyone know how many people they accept into the program(s)? (Traditional, Accelerated/Online and Momentum...if you happen to know all or just one)

Thanks!

Im not sure to be honest, for the traditional I want to say around 150, but I could be wrong! You could stop by the school and talk with the 1st yr secretary, she is a super nice lady

Our online class was limited to only 30 students, but it may be different in the future. They considered our group a "pilot program".

If you log into your vccs account and look at the nursing 1 sections you'll get an idea of present enrollment - 150 sounds/looks about right. I don't know what percentage of applicants that represents. I'm not one to worry much about application stats. Just get your prereqs done and apply to the schools that interest you - something will work out.

I completely agree with this.

We have 144 people in traditional program this year. Oh wait, 143, somebody left last week.

I like how everyone dodged that question about personal stats...NOT

I don't think many of us were enrolled in fall 08, though, so our stats wouldn't matter anyway.

I think many of these questions are best asked to the program secretaries or other people knowledgeable about the program anyway - I think the board isn't going to give you a good idea of any overall info.

If you truly want to know, head down to the MEC campus and go speak to the 1st yr secretary. She may tell you and she may not. Many students prefer not to "brag" about their GPA, and its the internet, so who knows if they are even telling the truth, lol Is it going to make a difference to oneself, if 10 people respond that their GPA is 4.0? As stated earlier, goto the MEC, 3rd floor and speak to the 1st yr secretary, she may or may not release the required information. best of luck

I was just being a smart-alek, I don't care what anyone's GPAs are. I think I am going to ask the 1st year nursing counselor! I'll report my findings if there are any. I do know that an in state 3.0 will get in over an out of state 4.0 if that is helpful to anyone...

I think everyone trying to get in the program secretly wishes they knew what the REAL standards were, they say a minimum 2.5 GPA. Our professor told us today that you HAVE to get an A in both your NAS classes, to get in to the program and it really did freak out a bunch of people.

That is interesting, that has not been my experience but I also did not apply when admission was "competitive". Where are you taking the NAS class? What campus? Just curious.

I have taken both NAS classes at Annandale. 3 different teachers now (one of them was a sub today and on Tuesday) have been very blunt with the students about competitive admission and straight As and if you aren't picking up on this then choose a new career field blah blah blah. It's nuts. I never would expect to hear them saying this.

2 friends today approached me at separate times today and asked me if I thought it was true and I just didn't know what to say. All I know is that Virginia is a little behind the rest of the country on the competitive entrance process. Don't get me wrong, I am NOT complaining. I don't want competition, I just want to get in! But I also want my friends to get in.

My #1 concern is understanding the basic style of learning and teaching for nursing. This is something I want to be good at. Grades aren't as important as understanding concepts and applying skills and knowledge. I don't expect or care to graduate with anything above my current GPA.
