I am considering adding nutrition to General Psyc. and A&P2 for fall. (plus a 1 hour student success class seminar) I am wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this course. Would this be a good course to take with the other two? What is the class like? What kind of work is involved?
I don't work but will have two preschoolers at home, who will be in parents day out two days a week. My other classes are online. I did do A&P1 in the summer and got an A, also online.
Would appreciate any advice about this course.
I guess it's more of a time concern for me than anything. Just wondering how much time this class would take up everyday. How much time did it take you to do the work and study for this class each day? I am figuring (hope I'm right) that my gen. psych. and A&P2 classes, plus a 1 hour student success seminar for fall will take about the same amount of time as my online A&P1 class did during the summer extended session. I had all five kids home during the summer and still managed to get an A. Three of my kids will be in school and the two preschoolers will have parents day out two days a week and still take two hour naps each day. So I thought I should be able to handle another class considering. I hope I'm right.
I have 5 kids too - 3 in school and 2 at home. I am in my 3rd semester but just really starting all my hard nursing pre-reqs. As long as I take right at FT hours, I think I can handle the load. It's hard but doable. I am taking A&P I, Chem, an extra Chem lab, and Nutrition - 11 credits - and spending the weekend doing volunteer work in order to be accepted into my program. Good luck!
You rock! Good luck to you!
I think I am doing it backward because I am taking the hard ones in the beginning. I can do it. It's only four months. I think I am just still confused to about if it's the right time to apply in Jan or not. I think part of my confusion about taking nutrition, was to me it felt like if I took it I was making the decision right now for sure to apply, even though I wasn't 100% sure if I should or not. I won't be done will all of my co-reqs for the RN by then. I would have three left, English, Sociology, and an Elective. That means I would have to take English during the LVN program because it has to be done before the start of the RN portion (my school doesn't have straight RN but if you do LVN there you pretty much just go right on thru to the RN portion if you want to continue on) and then either take the other two during the LVN or during the semester it's indicated they have to be finished by in the RN portion. It didn't really dawn on me until a couple of days ago that just because I am taking the nutrition portion doesn't mean I have to apply in Jan. but I think the load will give me a good indication of if I should or not. I wanted to make my NS load as light as possible but I don't think I really want to wait a full two years to start either, if I could next summer. It's not like the last three will be really hard courses anyway. I'm just rambling....
I get what you are saying! In my school, it takes being in school one semester before you can even register for A&P I - there is that much demand for the class. So I took an extra two semesters because my youngest is just now one and I was able to take all my classes online and be home with her. By the time I apply for nursing school (this April for Fall 2011), I will have taken everything but my nursing portion. I think that will set me up for more success once I get in since I have nothing to do but focus on nursing. I will still be taking at least 12 hours a semester then until my very last one!
I did add the class, online. It started on Monday, though I haven't actually done any work, other than reading. Get this....there is NO work. It's only quizzes for each chapter and they are to be done by the end of each month that the chapter in in and then there are about 4 exams if I remember correctly and only two are proctored. That's it. Read, take notes (because that's what I do, not because it's required), and test. I was kind of excited about it at first, now I think I'm freaked out a little.

I agree. I took nutrition along with Eng Comp II, Gen Psych, and A&P I in the spring. The course was a piece of cake! As far as work load is concerned I had no problem keeping my grades up in all my classes. Granted, this could have posed to be a different story with a different instructor or institution. As someone else has stated there are some things in nutrition and A&P II that that are very similar in nature. I took A&P II the first summer session and remember thinking "cool, we just went over this in nutrition in the spring".
If you feel that you can handle the workload I say go for it! At the end of the day that would be one more class done and out of the way! Good Luck!!!:):):)
