Nursing in the UK??

Published

Hi all,

I am currently an RN and attending school to obtain my AC-PNP. I am interested in moving to London once my program is completed but I don't know if my degree will translate over there. Does anyone have any advice or experience working in the UK with a US license?

Many thanks!!

You can't work in the UK with a US license (except maybe through the US military), you have to acquire UK professional registration. As a warning, it's a time-consuming and expensive process. Start here for basic information (Trained outside the EU/EEA). You may want to contact the NMC about whether your degree will be recognized; NPs seem to be much less common and their roles less understood than in the States.

Thank you so much for the information! I will look into it!

As mentioned starting point is NMC, very long drawn out process. There is a handbook that should explain everything for you on the link given above.

UK do have NP but a lot work in the community at GP surgeries. There are some that work in hospitals.

London is very expensive and I would look up RCN pay scale as a lot of RN's start at band 5 and NP will vary at band level but also check out NHS jobs website as that will give you an indication on jobs available
