What is the main role of nursing today? Being a nursing student I have faced many obstacles during clinical hours. I want to be a nurse because I care about people; however, people jeopardize nursing license so often these days that I am more scared than excited to become a nurse. What is the best way to practice nursing?

From what I understand you are asking is: What is the main role of nusing today and your fear that the actions of others, who jeopardize their nursing license, will effect you.

The main role of nursing today reflects the reason why you want to enter the profession. We work in a profession that acknowledges the bio/psycho/social aspect of our patient/client's and work to return them to the best functioning possible. Like physicians, we are to do no harm.

The role of the nurse is defined by the Board of Nursing for your state, the facility in which you work, and also by any degrees/certifications you hold. If you practice nursing according to those standards you should not be

'scared' to become a nurse. If other nurses cut corners, are not ethical and jeopardize their licenses, sooner or later they will have to face the consequences of their actions.:coollook:

Thank you for your reply. After posting my question, I researched and found a lot of interesting facts. You are right, it is important to practice nursing according to certain standards. Thank you again.
