:D Just thought we needed a new poll...
I hope I'm not being rude when I say I just don't understand why so many people want to be looked at because of their tatoos. In a way it seems to be a mild way of provoking others? Some people think they look neat and others think they look demented. I just don't know why a person wants to be stared at in the first place I guess. In any case a person with lots of tatoos sure is an attention getter:weathersunsmall:.

Um, getting tattoos is not about attention. Yeah, some silly people do it for attention. The people with tons of tattoos are artists.

I rarely show my tattoos, they are for me alone. Reminders of who I am, where I cam from and what I have been through. No where in there is To get attention...

Specializes in US Army.

I have lots of tattoos, to include one full sleeve, and I plan to get even more. You only live once, so make it all that it can be. No regrets, no remorse.

Yes,I am an attention getter. Having tattoos and piercings gets me even more attention. I do love the attention. But I would get attention even if I didn't have the tats and piercings. They just show who and what I am and can be. Some even show where my beliefs and tendencies. With me everything is visible, they are part of what I am.

So what about nurses and piercings? I have some that are visible:) I'm afraid of getting a tattoo. Truth be told, I am afraid of needles when it comes to me...

I am deathly afraid of needles which is why every now and then I get something pierced and then let it heal. I am also afraid of heights and go bungie jumping and sky diving. You can't let your fears rule you...

I find that almost as interesting as the tattoos often are, are the stories that go along with them.

I have a rather large and exotic tattoo on my leg, concealable unless wearing the birthday suit, or shortish shorts. Or in a VERY comfortable seated position with regular shorts.

I sure don't mind tattoos on anyone, and can't see the professional aspects of having them, or not having them. Does everyone who does NOT have a tattoo instantly become "professional"?

Scary, I think I basically posted the same argument on the marijuana thread.

Sky diving is fun isnt it.

Tattoos are interesting and very teling are they not.

Piercings have their pros and cons., seen some nasty infections in the ER from them.

Specializes in none.

I have 5 tattoes, but they can all be covered! I really like them, and am glad I didnt get them where they couldn't be covered up!:p

I think the whole professional argument comes out of the fact that some people (not saying that it is right) tend to pre-judge when they see tattoos and even non-traditional piercings. I personally have 3 which are all covered by my scrubs. I also think that it has to do with where you live/work as to if people are accepting depending on how conservative or liberal they are.

The majority of my piercings are out of visual range also. Except for ears and my nose. My nose has a diamond stud but nothing garish otherwise. I do stay out of the MRI room

I have 5 tattoos, most are small. 2 show that I cannot hide w/ clothing. This has only been an issue at one job I had- when I was hired I was told that I had to use tape to cover them. After I started working (noc) I had so many patients ask me what was wrong with my hand/arm that it was bothersome. I thought, I would not want to be a patient w/ a nurse who had some unknown thing on her arm.. so I went to the DON. I was told that I didn't need to cover unless it became an issue. It never did. I have had several patients who wanted to ask for me but did not remember my name say; you know the nurse w/...and everyone knows who they want.

Has anyone had trouble at work d/t theirs?

Specializes in ICU, telemetry, LTAC.

My newest (only my second) one is on my wrist, easily covered by a watch, or by my scrub jacket sleeve. I didn't know when I got my first one, that ten years later I'd be sorry because it isn't in a place where I can show it off; it still looks very pretty. So this year I aimed to get something that I could see and show off, etc.

Anyhow I cover it during shift report, when my boss is around, or for anything that is work related during the daytime.
