Nursing Support Group???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I was just wondering if any other students would be interested in starting some type of online nursing support group where we could keep in touch with one another on a regular basis to see how we are all doing to support one another. Just let me know if you are interested or have any ideas!

Would love to join I start my pre-reqs this Fall

Congrats NeoNatMom!!! That's great that you have been accepted into a fall program!!!

Welcome angela82!

Sorry for such a late response! Before I started nursing school I imagined all nursing majors would be one big happy family where we all help each other out and can lean on one another for support. I was so wrong. I never realized how competitive and judging nursing students could be. It's a hard major, so all of us should stick together. Because of this experience, I completely sympathize with you. Avoiding the negative students is unavoidable, but I would say just be polite with them and leave it at that. They will only add negativity in your life and you don't need that. Also, with a little more time you will most likely come across nursing students who you click with and are not at all like the other negative students. Don't give up hope because soon enough you are going to find nursing students who you can be around and befriend. After my first year, I became friends with a really nice nursing major who now a good friend and roommate. Just give it a little time because your situation will turn around soon especially as the classes get harder and the students realize that they need to work together.

Hi everyone,

Hoping you all might have some advice. I am having a few issues with other students in my class. Disgusted with the unprofessionalism and lost on what to do.

I know nursing school is very competitive, but I don't recall so many trying to undermine fellow students. The situations below discuss situations with 4 students.

Here we go—someone (we'll call her student 1)is trying to read some last minute notes prior to an exam. Student 2 goes out of her way to interrupt the student by repeatedly saying her (student 1) name so that the student is forced to acknowledge student 2. Student 2 had nothing to ask , just wanted to tell student 1 about an experience that she had. Student 1 politely said that she was trying to review prior to the exam. Student 2 disregards the comment made and continues to talk. This happens often, so not an isolated incidence. Student 1 sits far away from this student, but student 2 still comes over and distracts.

Same day- different student that has been acting like a friend...calls venting about a friend that she had an argument with—Went on to describe her situation by bringing up a very personal event that had happened to student 1. There was no comparison, just seems like an attempt to get student 1 to provide details of her personal event.

Then yet another student tries trash talking student 2 to student 1, but student 1 knows that these two had been friends. Student 1 tries to offer an ear and relates to other life events.

There is so much more—above are simply recent occurrences.

I don't know what else to do. Avoiding only goes so far and seems to make things worse, but I also know there are no friends in nursing school.

Has anyone else had similar school experiences? And if so, what did you do to resolve the conflicts?

Thank you for any advise that you may have!

I'm on my smart phone, so I apologize for any grammar or spelling errors.

I would definitely b interested in joining. I need all the support I can get, since I'm starting to lose hope in becoming an RN :(

Don't lose hope! There may be some bumps along the way to achieving the end goal of becoming a nurse, but let that end goal be your motivation in times like these. Take a second to just picture yourself being a nurse. It may help to bring back the hope.

It's nearing the end of the spring semester. I'm not sure how everyone's school year is constructed or school schedule start and end times, but how is everyone doing in their programs as well as personally? I hope everyone is super stressed out!

Would really like to participate in this group. Took 18 credit hours of pre nursing courses this (spring) semester. Have 12 scheduled for summer. Then I start LPN in the fall. Will be bridging to RN and then BSN from there. I am I my late 30's non-traditional student. Quit a career of 12 years to follow my dream of nursing.

Welcome to the group Shelexis! Congrats on going to start an LPN program in the fall and following your dream of becoming a nurse!

Thank you for your words of advise, RNtobe2016!

Fortunately I have met some nice students in the senior class ahead of my cohort. With this, your theory of students coming together more when classes get harder is totally true.

Thanks again!

I am extremely interested count me in !
