Hi,
I got a Littman stethoscope, a pen light, a good watch, comfortable shoes, etc. As far as preparation, I have been told studying up on medical terminology and clinical calculations (medical math) is very helpful. Good luck.
Thanks! I am going to get started on my list shortly. I think I can buy my books a month early so I may try some early reading:) Good luck to you too!!!!

Where are you all buying books? I just went to a discounter and bought a Pharm book. My first buy so far. I got my pharm book for $63.94 (new) instead of $93.85 (used)
I dont mind buying used books if they are not really heavy with highlighting. A little writing in the book doesnt bother me too much , I just dont want other peoples highlighting.
I was wondering if there were any Nurse Grads from last year that want to sell books. I looked at school and didnt see anything on the bulliten board.
I would recommend anyone buying books to make sure you get the most updated editions, especially for Pharm. I know many students will try to sell you an older edition but this will not be good since new drugs come out all the time so you want the latest version. I used half.com through ebay and I have great luck on all my books.
Hi! I bought my Assessment book from Alibris and got it for 90 brand new and it was 90 used at our bookstore. I ordered my stethoscope from medisave.net. I also bought my fundamentals book from lippincot wilkins and williams directly because its a brand new edition so at the bookstore the package was 167 and on their website the price was the same with shipping but I found a coupon code that gave me a discount and free shipping so I got the same package for 125! I have found out though that my bookstore is pretty reasonable, I actually cannot find a lot of the stuff much cheaper online.
What about everyone else?

half.com for me
Every books I got are brand new for more than 60% off the price tag (bookstore price).
I got my stethoscope as a gift from my roommate. His doctor friend recommended him to get 3M Littmann Stethoscopes. So he got me a classic one. I think you can order online for like $70 but he bought it from the local store and it cost him $150. His friend said don't buy a cheap stethoscope because it is going to hurt your ears. Don't forget to engrave or something--it gets lose easily! I used permanent silver ink pen to write my nickname on it!! just in case.

Yes I've heard the same :) At medisave they do free engraving, I'm undecided if I should get the littman classic or master classic..Im thinking the classic
I went with the Littmann Cardio III - check out allheart.com I paid around $130.00. I think they have some good sales going right now.

The cost of supplies was unexpected for my first quarter. I knew I needed certain things and that was never the problem, it was the other items that we must have before this date and that date; oh, and the exams we had to pay for; it just seemed like it was something new every week. I should be set through next quarter, at least.
I would love to purchase my books elsewhere, but our books come bundled from the bookstore and I've heard that there are items in that bundle that cannot be purchased anywhere but our bookstore, AND we cannot buy items separate from the bundle--all or nothing.
Definitely buy a good stethoscope, you won't regret it!
I agree, the cost of the misc. items (books, scrubs, supplies, etc) add up big time. I just purchased $400 worth of books for my first semester and I researched the best prices(amazon) if you want new. I think they typically don't tell you how much extra money you need outside tuition..but it's close to $1000 with all the supplies.
Yes, I know I just bought my fundamentals bundle and that was almost 200.00, then i still need some dvd thats brand new and its close to 70.00. I've spent about the same in my assessment class and I still have to get a stethoscope, bp cuff, nursing light, metric measuring tape, bandage scissors, and some thing called a response card clicker....and we got charged some kind of nursing testing fee with our tuition that was 90.00 and i don't even know what thats for!
