Times are rough right now. I start my BSN in August and I just had to apply for food stamps. I work PT and the money barely covers my expenses. I'll get $187 per month which means I wont go hungry... I thank God that I am able to get the help. This will be a test, and i ready for it. i just wish i wasn't so broke . BUT... I must be positive! this only makes me want to work harder! I know i have a long road ahead of me, but it will all be worth it in the end.
Has anyone else had to rely on assistance as a nursing student?
Anyone have tips on how to make my FS money stretch as far as possible? Recipes?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I have 1 one word for darkstar coupons, I use coupons as often as I possibly can. I have 3 kids and last year I started using coupons and I cut my grocery bill in half. I also have stocked up enough deodorant, body wash, detergent and other things for at least 1 1/2 years. i hope i have helped.:heartbeat
The government in question, at risk of staring a political discussion, is broke due to people in the state who are uneducated, they vote for a democrat then when everything is not fixed immediately, they vote for another republican, who cuts benefits and guts public assistance programs, health programs, and school funding even more to "help the economy." The state is broke and the citizens are broke and unemployment is sky high, there's no middle class there anymore. Just poor and rich.
Being in nursing school means that we're going to know how to cook a frozen burrito in the microwave! :) At least they're cheap, easy and rather tasty!
White rice, fresh cilantro and a can of black beans can go pretty far. It's not too shabby on the nutrition scale either.
PB & J's are a huge hit here... on a bagel, wheat or whole grain bread or even in a wrap (then they're gourmet) LOL!!
Mac & Cheese (In the cheap box), mixed with a can of tuna and some peas -instant tuna casserole.
I want to know what full time student you've been hanging around that has extra money for anything!!!
You have to learn to coupon! I do it to make mine stretch. I have 2 kids, 14 and 7 months and We live off of 800 a month total right now. My car is paid for so I only have rent/lights and gas to school. I know it's a struggle and I know there are days you just want to cry SO CRY!!!!!! Just don't have pity party too long. Look at how far you have come and keep your end goal in sight, that is how I cope and get by. Big hugs to you!
I'm a single mom of a toddler with no child support. I receive public assistance to help support us while I am going to school full time. I couldn't manage without it.
I am studying to be a psych NP so I know I will pay back into the system much more than I'll use. I've also worked full time since I graduated high school 20 years ago.
I don't feel bad about using these benefits but occasionally my pride is a bit bruised. Onward and upward!!! Good luck to us all
