What do nursing students wear as their uniform?? At least in the area of Northern Virginia...are they totally different by school? I was just curious to know if I'm going to look like a dork! :chuckle

In the Hampton Roads area, most of the schools have very similar uniform styles (a la "cafeteria lunch lady") but with different colors (then you could pick them out by school). I know one that sticks out in my mind where they are able to wear polo shirts with pullover smocks. (we were all so jealous of them!) I imagine its similar in Northern VA!

I believe each school is different. Where are you going??
Ohh...I just saw your post on another thread....you're going to NOVA?? Then I hate to tell you, but you're gonna look like a dork, LOL. Maybe not, but I saw one of their uniforms at an information session last year. It was a white uniform with a green smock-like thingy. Made me think of Home Depot. It might not be so bad though....could just depend on who's wearing it :)
Oh no, wait, I can still choose Marymount or Shenandoah....who has the least dorky uniforms!?....just kidding...a smock????....seriously....I also heard that some student nurses wear skirts??...what's next, the dorky white hats!!! I guess I'll find out tomorrow at the orientation program....oh lord....

My school's uniforms made us all look like a professional maid service. All white, all the time. Gathered, puffy sleeves, tie in the back, school patch on the sleeve, white athletic shoes. The LVN program fared worse. They got most of the above plus a purple dickey.

Heck we got to buy whatever uniforms we wanted. Scrubs had to be a solid colour (no print tops or warmup jackets). White hose if dress or skirt chosen. Shoes were our biggest issue.
But we had to have our student ID prominent and no lanyards.
Our uniform is white bottoms (skirt or pants) with a hunter green pullover top...no scrubs. Not sure what other type of pullover there is except a polo shirt (yuck). And hunter green is definite NOT "my color"!! LOL

Yeah, NOVA's uniforms are pretty horrid -- white pants and white polo top (you can choose your own) with a green and white striped smock that gets in the way of everything. Even most of the faculty make fun of it. The good news is that rumor has it that they're getting a new uniform next year (starting fall 2006).

At Virginia Commonwealth University, we had to wear Navy Blue Scrub pants and Navy Blue Scrub top with a patch on the sleeve. Not too bad. But now, since I graduated, I can't wear navy blue.
