Nursing student resume question

I am applying for an externship for this summer (due to graduate in December) at the local hospital of my dreams and I have a few questions about tweaking my resume. I graduated in 2008 from a university with my BS in Public Health and I had a lot of leadership and volunteer experience during my time at the university. I'm wondering if I should include it because it's at least 6 years old. I also was wondering if I should put down what skills I've performed in my clinical rotations. I've heard that it's kind of redundant because most people know what students do in clinicals but I don't really have a lot of stuff to put on my resume and I'm wondering if I should include that.

I wouldn't include the skills performed in clinicals unless anything stands out. For example, if you were given some award in nursing school for your clinical performance, you might include it. However, anything you've done in the past that might be relevant, throw it on there regardless of how long ago it was. From what I've read, it is best to keep your resume to one page, though. If it is only half a page, it might be okay to add some clinical experiences in to "fluff" it up. If your more relevant experience takes up most of the page, I'd leave the less relevant experiences off.

I'm no expert on resumes, but I've gotten both jobs I've tried for.

I was told on an interview that I should have included my PCT job from over 14 years ago. She asked me about my work history prior to being a stay at home mom and why I did not have it on my resume. So now I add it on my application (I have all my work history on my applications) as well as resume.

Yes to leadership and volunteering info. Keep clinical info to a minimum. Yes to work experience and anything that makes you stand out from the others. Good Luck!
