Greetings all,

I have recently been accepted into FDTC nursing classes. We have orientation from 8:30 to 3:30. What on God's green earth will we be doing for that long????? Will the instructors just be giving us a chat and paperwork? We have already turned in cpr certifications, immunizations, and background checcks.

You'll mostly likely get fitted for a uniform if your school has those and they will have multiple speakers. They may have you pick out your textbooks. Mine was only 4 hours but I went to different school. I'm also at a loss about why it should be that long.

I had two 8-hour long orientations for my school. We got talks about security on campus, teaching on to how to respond to an active shooter in the college and in the hospital, oriented to the lab and class rooms, lectures about HIPAA, a critical thinking test, a basic math test, group activities designed to help us get to know each other, in-depth discussion of the topical to make sure we all understood how it worked, we were set up with a VPN so we could access the hospital intranet on our laptops, oriented to the intranet and where to find various references we would need to complete care plans and other assignments, we were set up with an ATI account, college email, and college networking system, there was a round-table discussion with current students who answered some of our questions, we met our peer mentors, we met our academic advisor, we were given books and our clinical bag, and had photos taken for our ID badges. I feel like there were some other things sprinkled in there that I can't recall, but it definitely filled up the entire time.

Lol so lucky. Seven hours just seems a little much.

Also, hopefully the time will go by fast like yours did. Sounds like a very productive meeting.

At my program we had about 8 hours of orientation. Some of it was administrative details of the program, some more general welcome to the program. Information on student health center, transportation, campus security etc. We were introduced to a bunch of our future faculty. Also remember there being a bunch of different speakers though I don't remember all the topics. A student panel came and spoke to us about their experiences in the program and answered questions. We also had a tour of campus. Over all it was very informative and passed very quickly.

Same thing for me. Seems like a huge part of the day was the 9999 ways to get kicked out.
